5 team Beal/Butler: Suns/Heat/Wolves/Blazers/Lakers
Suns
out: Beal, Morris, '31 unprotected
in: Butler, J Walker.
Rationale: Durant wants Butler. Mission accomplished. Also Walker could be useful.
Heat
out: Butler, Highsmith, Love, Rozier
in: Randle, TimeLord, Thybulle, Vincent, Vanderbilt
rationale: swap all-stars, but get one who will actually play and might actually sign a reasonable extension if it comes to it. Turn Rozier into multiple pieces adding shot blocking TimeLord to former Heat Vincent. I would say Vandy > Highsmith, but I understand the homegrown and proven within a system argument. Cap casualty here. Needed the asset.
Wolves
out: Randle, Ingles
in: Grant, Highsmith
Grants contract is no picnic, but he might be a better running mate for AntMan. Still will have to cope with double teams though... Locked into longer money, but at a lower rate than KAT making it a little more sustainable. Highsmith is a useful multi-positional player who can fit seamlessly into the rotation.
Blazers
out: J Walker, timelord, Thybulle, Grant
in: Suns 2031 unprotected pick, Rozier, Rui, Reaves, Christie
Rationale: Really in it for the pick and Reaves. Rozier can/will be shopped (looking at you Detroit). Christie is another development prospect of course. Clears one center off the roster.
Lakers
out: Reaves, Rui, Christie, Vincent, Vandy
in: Beal, Love, Ingles, Morris
rationale: Beal when healthy is still an all-star talent. Obviously Love knows how to play with Lebron. Ingles and Morris replace some of the lost depth.

On first glance, Blazers get wayy too much, Lakers get hosed. Wolves might get a better fit with Grant, but he hasnt been a winning player for a while now and youre hoping he can just flick a switch. Heat are taking back too much money
Only Blazers and Suns sign off on this, imo.

Can’t see LAL going for this.

I stopped reading when I saw what the Suns were giving and the Heat were getting. Suns would do it for sure. Can't see Miami being interested.

Assuming Butler is not able to re-join the team (his choice) what is a better replacement rental?
My short list is Ingram and Randle with Zion being honorable mention because if anyone can get through to him it would be Riley.

Lakers hang up the phone without responding. I wouldn't trade Reaves straight up for Beal given his contract and age.

I feel like you just play hardball till you get the offer you can live with. That offer is not coming from Phoenix, and honestly I'd just tell Jimmy privately that a Heat trade isn't happening, the same way the Blazers told Dame they weren't sending him to Miami. You wear Jimmy down until he agrees to a location that can actually offer something. The Kings are desperate, they're a good place to start.
This isn't a new strategy, not only has it been done many times but it's been done with Jimmy too. His initial list of teams to Minny was the 4 LA/NY teams. It went long, but eventually they found a market appealing enough that Butler could stomach going there (and who actually had a real return). Of course Minny being Minny they made a bad trade anyway, but it's the principle that's relevant.

What do you think Riley actually wants in a trade? If every team was an option -- what sort of offer do you expect would be on the table that would be of interest?
Kings as an example.
They want to keep Fox and Sabonis.
What are you getting back that you want?

I mean, I don't think Riley will get what he wants, but once you open up the playing field by playing hardball you can hopefully get a better package. The Kings have more future picks than Phoenix for example, so that right there makes it easier to work out something preferable.

Re: 5 team Beal/Butler: Suns/Heat/Wolves/Blazers/Lakers
Fun trade idea but I don't think it hits the mark....
~~
Phx - yes!
Mia - no!
Min - yes?
LaL - no!
Por - yes!
For starters no way Reaves is swapped for Beal [and old guys and Morris...]. Beal I think is a worse player and he makes so much more than AR. ouch for Lakers. Miami gets a bunch of bad salary & Randle should not be their target.

So the way I see it there are three ways to play it:
1) keep butler, find reasons to suspend him so you recoup max amount of money
2) trade Butler for best player available on an expiring contract (BI, Randle, Simmons, ??)
3) trade Butler + assets for an upgrade to go with Herro/Bam (ie Trae Young, Curry, Kawhi)
1 and 3 seem irresponsible, so we are looking at option 2 unless you think Riley is interested in role players on role player salaries (think SAS, Keldon Johnson+Barnes package)
Really what I am getting at is what do you think is a plausible goal for a trade? I think Randle is as good as it gets (contract is ending, all-star production, tough/high character, willing to play to earn the extension)

I'd definitely be looking for future picks from a desperate team (e.g. Sac). I don't think worthwhile young prospects or vets are feasible.

MIN wouldn’t want three more year of Jerami Grant’s contract
I suspect Randle opts out, which will leave MIN with plenty of money to sign Naz, NAW, and get under the second apron. If Randle opts in for one year, $31 mil, I suspect the Wolves trade his expiring to a “win-right-now” team for a cheaper player, some payroll relief, and still promote Naz to starting PF.
