1-3rd worst have equal odds at the first pick

1st has less likely-hood of dropping to 4th than 3rd record wise. I'd rather not take my chances.

Team is not getting those 1st worse odds.

Not holding my breath for anything better then 5th.

So maybe Silver wanted to give us a chance to develop against the good teams we'd lose to anyways, and then give us a chance to hit the play-in?

Trade Yak while his value is at an all time high.

This reminds me of the year we traded for Poeltl lol. We hhad an easy schedule to close out the season and people uused that to justify the trade

Won’t matter. Approaching that time for strategic resting like we did in Tampa.

The funny thing is that fans of those other tanking teams probably see the Raptors on the upcoming schedule and say
"ah crap, we will likely win that one".

When you are second last in the league there are no easy wins. All I see are games we are less likely to be blown out in. We could easily end up with 15-20 wins, and that would not be underachieving.

Yeah real easy to say that when you haven't seen Masai activate his trap card of trading the 2025 FRP for Brandon Ingram. Oh yee of little faith.

and Boucher

No one is giving worthwhile pieces for Boucher because he's an expiring. Poeltl is the ideal asset to sell. He's signed long term-ish, immediately helps a contender win / protect their stars from NBA season grind.

I would still try to trade our expirings for good veterans fits and 2nd round picks. Brown for Smart + 2nds looks like a decent deal. We give them a useful player and take on an extra year of an aging Smart.

Hawks: Poeltl + Mitchell + #23 (DAL)

Raptors: Gafford + Kleber + Zeller + ATL #14 (Maluach)

Mavericks: Capela

We tank hard and get a top 5 pick, have a 2nd lottery pick, and we get stop gap options to put at C for this season. Barnes and our other forwards wouldn't be played out of position.

Draft in order of preference:
TOP 5: Flagg, Harper, Johnson, Jakucionis, or Edgecombe
14: Maluach / Queen
35: CMB / Ivisic / Thiero / Broome.

Worst case scenario:

Gafford / Queen / Broome
Barnes / Mogbo / Olynyk
Barrett / Agbaji / Battle
Edgecombe / Dick / Temple
Quickely / Shead

We would have another 2 lottery picks coming in as well from us and Indiana. It would be another rebuilding year where we would have to take our chances in the lottery again and gradually build up the value in prospects like Dick, Edgecombe, Shead, Queen, Mogbo, and others.

1. Easy is relative. Having the most games vs sub-500 teams doesn’t mean as much when those teams are still a lot better than you.

2. I know (I hope, anyway) it’s not the same people saying both things, but the ideas that Masai is calling in favours to stack the schedule this way, and that the league would never let Toronto draft a superstar (those are saved for hot markets like San Antonio, Orlando, and New Orleans, apparently) just can’t both be true. I mean, neither one is true, so if you strongly believe either one please reply so I can ignore you, but seeing both ideas sprinkled here and there is just fantastic.
