Would you trade Poeltl+ for Zion?

Post#1 » by Merit » Sun Jan 12, 2025 4:21 pm

As the title says. I’m looking to shift the conversation from the Raptors previous trade with San Antonio to who we could possibly acquire if we were to trade Jak. One team that could use him imo are the New Orleans Pelicans.

Poeltl + Boucher = Zion and works in the checker.

(Side note: Brown + Olynyk = Ingram and works in the checker.)

There may be other options for Jak but my thought is that trading him for someone who has higher upside is one way to nudge the team onto a faster timeline. In the case of Zion the hope is that we can improve his fragility and injury history by “load management” or other means given we have Alex McKechnie.

What other potential fits do you see for Jak? I haven’t included picks/futures here but you are welcome to. Please let me know your thoughts.
I believe in Masai.

Why would the Pels do this? Obviously you do this just from an asset standpoint but the trade makes no sense. Zion even has an injury clause so he is not even guaranteed (Which is good).

That’s why I thought we’d acquire him. Worst case we get cap space. High risk in Zion because he never stays healthy, but high reward because he’s miles better than Jak when healthy.

As for Missi - he’s solid, and a rookie. He would still play and we’re seeing a number of time shares that work. Eg. Dallas, Cleveland.

Because missi + Jak solidifies their C spot at a reasonable contract amount. When missi is ready to take the reins fully, Jak would be looking for his next contract and the pels can either keep or trade him.

sure a team that has the worst record in the league is worried about shoring up C position, when the ROY is probably Missi.

No. Zion Williamson is a professional bench warmer and junk food eating bust who made his debut a couple months late and it was electric. 5 years later he's done nothing but disappoint the citizens of Louisiana.

No chance. You have to get him as far away from Sumaq Iraqi Charcoal Grill as possible.

Nothing should stop the tank at this stage, we should revisit adding "buy low" candidates in the offseason.

I was saying to go get DeAndre Hunter/Wiggins all off-season and many folks thought those contracts stunk. Now they're both looking like steals and would have been exactly what our starting lineup needs by replacing Dick.

Why would they want a 20 million dollar center with major holes in his game when they can just keep playing a cheap rookie?? makes no sense for them.

From the Raptors pov, you'd be dumb not to do this. But Pels gain nothing from this. Unrealistic scenario.

No, for the reasons cited above, but also because if you deviate from a proper rebuild, you also risk doing zig-zagging in playoff no man's land for years.

Yes! We continue the tank this year, and lock Zion in a secret place and starve him till October

He would make sense for a team like the Hornets to pair with Ball/Miller. Not only are there huge risks with him but he also is not a good fit with Barnes or the rest of the roster for that matter.
