McCollum to CHA, Brown to SAC…..

Post#1 » by Bentley1225 » Sat Jan 11, 2025 11:19 pm

I’ll offer this idea for
-Hornets add a veteran starting SG for their depth
-Kings get more of a defensive 2/3 with off-season flexibility
-Pelicans get out of tax and lower camp number for next offseason but swapping 2 guards
-Raptors further lower current cap and get 2nds for expiring contracts

To Charlotte (Trade Williams, Martin, Micic, 2nd)
-CJ McCollum (2 years, $63.3 million)

To Sacramento (Trade Huerter, 2nd)
-Bruce Brown (1 year, $23 million)

To New Orleans (Trade McCollum)
-Kevin Huerter (2 year, $34.2 million)
-Chris Boucher (1 year, $10.1 million)

To Toronto (Trade Brown, Boucher; waive Temple)
-Grant Williams (3 years, $41 million)
-Cody Martin (2 years, $16.8 million)
-Vasil Milcic (1 year, $7.7 million plus T.O.)
-2025 Spurs 2nd via Kings
-2027 Pelicans 2nd

Why
-Hornets look to add more backcourt scoring as MCollum can provide that boost as Hornets take on about $8 million more salary for next season
-Sacramento gets a more defensive minded piece in Brown as they move off of Huerter and his money for next season
-New Orleans creates more immediate and future cap flexibility in getting Huerter for half price of McCollum as flexibility could aid in extending Ingram
-Toronto moves 2 expiring deals for 2 deals beyond this season and an expiring as they swap Brown for Martin and Boucher for Williams as they get 2 2nds for money they take on.

Just from a "what I would like to see" perspective, I would like to see Hawkins go to SAC for draft compensation because there is a log jam down there. Also replaces Huerters skillset so they can light the beam.

Charlotte doesn't really need a veteran undersized scoring guard.

We'd be taking on about $17M for next season as Martin is unguaranteed next year. I don't think we need McCollum at that saalary number unless Tre Mann's back is truly messed up

It’s not about who he is it’s what he can provide. The Hornets are 29th in scoring per game. They’re giving up rotational spare parts plus a distant 2nd for a guy that can still average 20ppg.

The Hornets could draft a 2 guard with their 2025 lottery pick and have him play behind McCollum for 1 year in ‘25-26.

While it’s somewhat intriguing, and I like the fact that Brown is a healthy size expiring, it really doesn’t fit our actual need for a guy with good size as a forward to fill the gap in the front court. Add to that we already have a glut of guys in the guard rotation and I just can’t quite say a defined yes to this unless there is really nothing else out there.

To me it would be some help defensively and opening up cap in the summer to really pursue a deal for a solid PF that fits and balances things.

Why is TOR doing this? taking Grant Williams contract for 2 2nds and not really good ones?
CHA should do this because vet leadership is needed and they dump the last year of Grant's deal.

The Williams contract isn’t an anchor. It’s a MLE based deal that runs for 2 more years. Raps add him and 3 picks for ‘25-26 to reach 14 contracts and are under tax apron.

He's dead salary until 2026, and will take him time to recover.
It's too low a return IMO but if you like Grant then go ahead, it's not a terrible deal.

This feels like too many ideas in one trade. Seems to work better without Toronto though? They don’t do well and the salaries get complicated with their inclusion.

And Sac isn’t going over the tax for Brown. That would not be smart.

Williams tore his ACL in November, I would expect he’ll be ready for start of ‘25-26 (11 months later). No need for him rest of this season anyways as they aren’t in business of winning games currently.

Who you think we boo boo da fool?

Man we don't need a aging undersized guard especially when we have a younger version in Tre Mann.

With all due respect we decline.

he tore quite a bit more than his ACL. Maybe he's "ready" opening night, but I expect it'll be a bit longer than that for him to actually get back to playing well.

That's the main reason I'm lumping him in with the other 4 no-value contracts we have. If you could guarantee he'd be at least 80-90% of himself for most of next season, we wouldn't put him on the table as a neutral value piece.
