i hate these stupid rules man, let people hire whoever the hell they want. what's the point of a token "open search" if they already know who they want?

Imagine how the other candidates feel about flying to SF for an interview that they know has already been decided against them? At least they can enjoy a scenic stroll through the Tenderloin while their rental car is broken into...

Mike Tomlin never would have gotten hired if not for the Rooney rule. Rules like this are needed.

Re: 2025 OFFSEASON
You mean getting interviews per the rule but the late Steelers owner created this rule cause he believes that minorities are just as qualified, not cause he had to and would have hired Tomlin regardless as he was deem their best candidate at the time. Since he's still their HC as longest tenure active, this speculation is even more absurd.Big J wrote:clyde21 wrote:i hate these stupid rules man, let people hire whoever the hell they want. what's the point of a token "open search" if they already know who they want?

I'm rooting for Bills, Lions, Ravens in that order. If it's Eagles and Chiefs again I don't even...

Re: 2025 OFFSEASON
I agree with the reasons why the Rooney Rule is stupid when if you have the person you want to hire you should be able to hire them.
However I do see some pros in it. I've always said that the NFL doesn't have a race problem but a nepotism problem and I do believe forcing teams to interview minorities does help get their names out there and helps them break that nepotism a bit.
I do believe if you're promoting internally though you should be exempt from all the hiring rules though.

Re: 2025 OFFSEASON
Seems unsurprisingly Saleh is the front runner for the DC job.
I have mixed feelings on that because I still prefer to move on from the scheme and I'm not sure if Saleh is going to inject the aggressiveness that I think the scheme needs.
But if Kyle is going to stick with the scheme as pretty much is Saleh is the top choice for the job and he by default is going to be much better than Sorensen because Saleh at least is pretty good at 2nd half adjustments which is the complete opposite of Sorensen.

Harry Palmer wrote:Also, I think I prefer keeping Greenlaw to Deebo too, but it doesn’t work numbers wise. Plus, as much as I think he’s ~ complacent in the off-season and when not being targeted, I do kind of understand why Kyle is in love with him; he was the first player we had whose unique abilities allowed Kyle to do unorthodox things on offence…maybe outside Kittle but Kittle isn’t all that unique, he’s just not unusually good at everything you want a TE to do. CMC added to that, but I think Kyle still thinks of Deebo as the straw that stirs the drink.
I'm a little more positive on Deebo compared to a lot of fans because I think he can still be quite effective it's just that he needs the right players around him.
I felt like a large problem this year is when your lineup when you're throwing out Deebo, Jennings, and Kittle as your top 3 yes those guys are talented but they all pretty much fill the same role. Not to mention throwing Juice out there it was just a bunch of big bodied guys that really depend on Kyle's scheme to get open.
That's where we missed Aiyuk and a healthy Pearsall because we needed those two out there to be your more traditional WRs and divert attention from a guy like Deebo so you can get him open with room to run.
It's also why we need a legit speed threat out there because guys like Jennings, Kittle, and especially Deebo rely on having space to work with so having a guy that can spread defense out would be a huge help for this offense.
Also getting Juice off the field on passing downs and replacing him with a legit WR needs to happen. Yeah Juice is good for escaping for a sneaky big competition but it doesn't happen nearly enough for him to constantly be out there.

49ers interview Detroit assistant special teams coach. I would prefer him to Sorenson

Re: 2025 OFFSEASON
I really hope they go outside of the organization this time. In response to the article below I also hope Shanahan gives whoever the DC is more flexibility in running the defense. Shanahan should be focusing on the offense and let whoever the DC is do his job and not hamstring him. Not sure what to make of Dennis Allen. I just know him as a failed head coach in two places. Don't know anything about his time as a DC

Allen has had consistently good defenses for the most part so I would be onboard hiring him.
He's a 4-3 guy and he's not a heavy blitzer but the most radical change he would bring is he's #1 in calling press man whereas the 9ers have been #1 in calling zone.
I've been calling for this defense to run more man because I just feel that if you're going to rush 4 you need to give them sometime to get home. One massive problem we've had is we rush 4 drop 7 into zone but the QB still has 0 issues finding the gaps in the zone for easy first downs.
To me zone is better paired with defenses that use multiple fronts and are aggressive blitzers whereas man works better when you just want to rush 4.

I too am on board with Dennis Allen, in fact he would be my first choice. Love the aggressiveness in the secondary with press man coverage and aggressive schemes there. Shanahan has long admired him too. And if we do hire him, the Saints are still paying him for 2025 unless he gets a HC job.....In other news, boy I think Sam Darnold may have worked his away back to be being the 49ers back up QB again bases on last night's performance lol

The Rams followed up on Detroit's game and got Darnold out of clean pocket with some pressure and the same result. He was rattled the whole game. Overthrowing receivers, inaccurate passes, taking really bad sacks.

Re: 2025 OFFSEASON
Sam is no longer a backup QB and will get a starting job on some QB needy team like the Saints than backup Purdy Lol. If they can sign Sam for Baker's 3/100 mil half guaranteed contract, do it and trade Purdy for picks to fix the OL once and for all. Reason being is that Purdy's camp wants Dak's contract, no home town discount otherwise he will hold out for the max and then gets hurt like Aiyuk.49er4life1979 wrote:Jikkle wrote:Pattersonca65 wrote:I really hope they go outside of the organization this time. Re: 2025 OFFSEASON
here is a nice write up on Allen's defensive scheme
i'd probably prefer Saleh but Allen has a decent track record of putting together nice defenses, and unlike Saleh no one is gonna tap him for even an interview any time soon.

I'm a little more in the Allen camp but that's more to do with moving away from our current scheme than anything.
Actually being good in coverage and good on 3rd downs. Sign me up
I definitely would be fine with a Saleh hire I just fear with him he's going to keep doing the same things and the defense will have the same issues just nowhere near as glaring as they were under Sorensen. Like Saleh will actually make 2nd half adjustments and the defense will be well coached I just think sitting back in zone and rushing 4 we're still going to see 3rd and long conversions.
