This is where having your G-League team right there with your NBA team can pay off. I honestly wish they’d send him to Osceola till after the All-Star break. If he can’t be productive, doesn’t even have to be dominant, in the G-League there is a big problem. AB does not have an NBA body yet, nor does a possess elite speed, and ball handling skills. He has to get stronger and work on whatever it is he’s going to be good at and find it

Sorry, but no.

He's the #6 lottery pick in year 2 playing 23.7 mpg.

He needs to prove he can be in an nba rotation playing with the big boys or he needs to be moved asap. Jett Howard can afford to be in the g-league for 1 season with a plethora of wings beating him our for minutes.

AB? No chance. Who is he competing for minutes with? Cole Anthony who looks like dog **** 90% of the time this year? 34 year old Cory Jospeh? He has no excuse to not be on the court.

Package him up if he looks like a perpetual backup in year 3-3.5 on a team with no real point guard. I'm all for letting young prospects pan out, but Im just not seeing it with AB yet. I couldn't tell you what he does well on offense aside from occasionally driving to the rim or drawing fouls sometimes.

Jalen Suggs, at 10 ppg , 32% from 3, started less than half his games played in his 2nd year was called a bust by people around the league. And that was after being a starter from day 1 shooting 35% from the field and 21% from 3. I agree AB needs playing time, but it wouldnt hurt to rebuild some confidence with the G League team with consistent minutes. Baseball always seems to have this right, players dont get their feelings hurt to go to Triple A and then come back up. But if a player cant get minutes on an NBA team, which can be hard with a team that is winning, there never seems to be a thought to get minutes going even for a week or 2 in the G league

That’s why I’m saying by the middle of next season, which was when Jalen made his jump without needing to be thrown into the gleague.

Hes not competing to be another good 3&D player. Hes competing to be the starting point guard, better than other trade alternatives.

How bout tat AB!! 17 points, 6 rebs and 6 assists plus 2 steals tonight. With increased playing time, he has been solid.

But tonight goes to JI. Dude is a dog! Love his game! Keep it going, Magic!!

A lot of his 3-pt shots are last second broken plays. I think he's a better shooter than his average.

And once again....

.... still not old enough to drink. haha. He's got time. And KCP has afforded him that time as his contract will be over at the time of Black's extension. Work on aggression this season. Self-evaluate his season and make improvements in the summer. Him just being a possible PG Paolo and getting to the line would be a huge asset (especially if he consistently hits his free throws). He has a great trajectory in my opinion. Solidifying himself as a great perimeter defender is awesome. he has flashes of playmaking as he gets into the teeth of the defense. Players will get to moving with him and I think things will continue to flourish.

Continue to be bullish and refuse to change opinions game to game. Consistently high level defensively and shows more than enough flashes offensively.

He was struggling but came out of it or so it seems. This is good for the Black stock.

I feel like he can have KCP + PG skills. and if that's the case... he's a great pick. a fully unleashed AB would be something that could put us over the top. His ability to drive into the paint with his size would put pressure on most defenses similar to paolo... but from PG position. he gets to the line at a great rate. he's made some great passes among the turnovers... but i believe it will improve over time. And his contract reup will coincide with KCP... hopefully we can just swap salaries and keep it all going..... retire KCP in a magic uniform as a mentor and value backup. lol

We all know AB's impact as a defender. But I'd love to see him more aggressive and assertive on the offensive end. Even without Franz and Suggs, we are good enough to win. But in order to do that, you need AB!

This is such a great sign. He's shooting ~70% from within 5 feet during this span as well as drawing fouls at a very high rate. These are indicators of a star point guard prospect. I'd like to see him increase his share of assists generated on the court. He's currently generating 20% of the assists generated during his stints, look for him to increase this to about 30% before he reaches his final form.

The biggest strength of our Franchise Player Forwards Wagner & Banchero is driving to the basket. We dont need another guard who can only do that and dont offer any shooting. Despite i dont care about a 3 game span, its just too short to say anything at all, Black is just a bad fit to our core.

Should a PG only generate 1/5 of the assists when he’s on the court? Or, even only 30%? Not sure I like that one. I like the driving and the D stuff, but I’m still not seeing PG stuff

He had the chance to show us something and Cole seems to have beat him out.

Well see how the roster shakes up when Suggs returns if Cole sticks around with Black.

I'm with you on the "well this span has been disappointing". I just need to keep talking like i'm losing hope. He seems to bounce back when I speak with an air of sad father.

You've perfectly articulated where I'm at...apologists think I'm a hater, but I really want to see AB, in particular, do well. I just don't have unlimited patience or blinders on. I don't want to trade him and would resist it...but if a big step forward was contingent on including him, I'd do it. His trade value might not be a frp today, but I'd gladly include a frp if it means keeping AB. He's such a good fit physically, defensively, and his attitude seems excellent (up and down, but committed - I like that he gets upset when he's not delivering like he should). He's a good example of a guy I would hang onto and continue to (try to) develop, but not necessarily bank on.

*Edit: I would add that I don't think that he simply can't shoot...he just doesn't hunt shots enough (yet). I wouldn't be comfortable saying there's any aspect of the game he's shown that he "can't" do - that's what makes him so enticing. Just needs more frequent "doing"

I wonder if AB would average more assists if the team shot better?

Sure, but doesn’t that support the argument that AB wasn’t a real useful addition to this roster? We already have a good defensive team that can’t shoot.

Are you saying Black wasn't a good pick or he was?

Black is going to be a stud.
