not really. you are basically giving up one of the best wing defender of the team (GPII) and 2 of the few shooters dubs desperately need. replace hield with slomo to start with, then waters with santos and it's already better.

What makes it a lock? Depends on the deal. I think a lot of that Athletic article is in media negotiating. A Butler trade for Wiggins/Kuminga/Schroder is a non starter (not just for the FO, but I think Steph and Dray legit believe in Kuminga) so if the choice is Butler minus those three or Vuc plus them, all parties within GS are taking the latter.
The question becomes what does Steph, Dray and the FO say if the Butler price drops to just Wiggins?
The Butler price can’t drop to just Wiggins though I assume you mean no Kuminga.
Trade machine says this would work:
Wiggins, GP2, Loon, Slo-Mo for Butler, Jovic, Larsson, Johnson
I’m sure they’d want a pick as well but even then I’m not sure this gets it done.
There would be no chance of Jovic going out without a young stud coming back.
Yea I know he makes it harder to get a deal done but with Loon and Slo-Mo going out a big needs to come back and Loves contract is just a little too big to make it happen. We could swap Burks in for him but then we’d have to figure out a secondary move for a big. Thought about trying to add Vuc to the deal but then it’s even harder to make it work.

Suns expected to offer Jimmy a 2/121 extension. If a trade gets done
People still want Jimmy?
Can you imagine paying 170M next season for just steph, Jimmy, jk, and dray? Then 180M, the following season?

Of course not, the Butler route was only going to be for a rental or a small extension. If the Suns are going to be crazy then that's their business. Butler could help this team right now but he's not a long term piece (neither are Steph and Dray).
So, what's Zion up to? (answer: about 275...). In all seriousness, Zion would be my preferred "big fish" piece among what's out there, although we don't know if he's really available. He's still young and his issues are in theory preventable to some degree. Double Celebrini's pay, hire nutritionists, whatever it takes.

Depends on the price tag. If it drops to Wiggins/Loon/GP2/Hield/SloMo/protected 25 first for Butler and the Heat smaller deals to fill the roster (Love, Richardson, Burks etc), it’s worth a conversation -one I think Steph and Dray will want to have.
That 2-year extension lines up with Steph and Dray and Kerr. Let them go hard to contend for the next two seasons and then you start a rebuild with clean books and all your first rounders.
Beats the Zion pipe dream imo. If he shows any sign of what he can be, Pelicans are either not giving him up or not giving him up cheap.
Contract protections that make him worth the risk works for the Pels in keeping him too.

Vegas still has Warriors odds high fwiw like a deal is expected.

In what may or may not be related, Wiggins pulled from tonight’s game for “personal reasons”

EDIT: Nevermind on the second. His wife’s giving birth

This would be a nightmare for GS. The Jimmy Butler idea is crazy. He's 35 and hasn't played a fullish season since 2016/17. He's only going to get worse from here and thern vastly more expensive, and then there's also the potential locker room issue as he's never happy.
Please no.

Can't speak for the others, but when I have been talking about acquiring a star, I've said the whole time we should consider it, not jump into a trade. I wanted to see how we did as we got closer to the trade deadline -- and the data has been bad. The team is terrible, so unless we catch fire before the deadline there is no real reason to make a big move unless another team has a gift for you.

The Suns should be a cautionary tale for the Warriors when it comes to going all-in for a player. They currently have a worse record than the Warriors and have traded away their FRP's unconditionally in 2025, 27, and 29 and don't control their picks to potential swaps in 2026, 28 and 30. They are also in a horrible place in the new CBA financially with 3 huge contracts.

Not the same. Safe to say any prospective Butler trade isn’t going to require a bunch of picks or putting the team in second apron hell (depending on Kuminga). IMO, only way GS considers a Butler deal is if the price drops significantly
We’ll see if it does when the next shoe drops between Butler and the Heat drops in the next week or two

Wiggins out with personal reasons.....Kuminga out with ankle.
Makes you wonder if these guys, especially Wiggins, are already part of some deal.

Luckily I don't think anyone here has been talking about a trade like that and the Warriors definitely wouldn't do it.
