McCarthy is officially out as HC. So who’s done think it’s going to be? Kellen Moore? Zimmer?

I’d bet Moore gets an interview request…

Not sure that Zimmer doesn’t hop in the car with that hottie he’s seeing and split.

And yeah - it’s official

Sources: Mike McCarthy is out as #Cowboys coach.

The sides couldn’t agree on length of contract and McCarthy will pursue other opportunities. He leaves Dallas with a winning record and three playoff appearances.

Well they did move in from McCarthy. Do you think they will actually pursue Ben Johnson? Do you think they will go the college route? I’ve heard Steve Sarkisian, Marcus Freeman, and Lane Kiffin’s name being brought up.

The latest rumor is Deion Sanders, which I think is a horrible idea.

I personally cannot stand the guy. I think he’s a huge hypocrite, a blowhard, and just an overall despicable human being. I think his teams play soft (like he did) and his style of coaching just won’t work in the NFL.

With that said he has turned around 2 programs in a very short amount of time. Signing him more than likely also accelerates the team moving on from Dak (because Shedeur will likely be the new QB). I’m grasping at straws for positives here.

Micah? You got anything here? What are the positives?

Deion is one of the best CBs in history.

Remember 1995 when Deion contained Michael Irvin in the NFC title game?

The following season Deion left the Niners and signed with the Cowboys and ended up winning a Super Bowl ring with the Cowboys.

I don’t see Shedeur being there at 12… the Cowboys don’t have a history of moving up in the 1st round to take anyone (much less a QB)… and I just don’t get the sense Deion would be real interested in coaching against his kids.

I get the sense this is a little PR game with Jerry & Deion for some press and maybe a little more cash from Colorado for Deion. Beyond that - I don’t see any “good” reason for this to happen. I see plenty of other reasons…

Do they still also have to satisfy the Rooney Rule when interviewing coaches?

If it's not Deion, then Aaron Glenn is the other name. Also has ties to the team. That's my initial gut feeling.

The positives on Deion being the HC?

1. TV ratings, drama, coverage, etc (which is actually a negative I guess but a + for Jerry/Stephen)
2. He isn't MM

And that's all I got. I loved Deion the athlete, but I hate him as a HC and I feel like his personality traits aren't ideal for a great coach. Hopefully we go a different direction than Deion.

I'm seeing rumors of Jason Witten being a candidate.

Honestly I forgot that he played in Dallas for 1 season under Parcells. I doubt Jerry has any interest in interviewing Aaron Glenn.

Also for what it’s worth, I’ve been hearing some talk that some people have doubts about Ben Johnson as far as his ability to be a HC. Sounds like he has the same problem that Kellen Moore has, too meek and nice to be a successful HC. Great X’s and O’s guy just not a HC.

Yea someone threw his name out there too but no way he goes from coaching high school to the NFL. He might be a good coach one day but not today.
