UTA trades: Sexton, Eubanks
in: Okogie, Moore, 2025 TOR 2nd, 2026 DEN 2nd, 2029 MIL 2nd, 2031 DEN 2nd
I'm sure Utah will look for a first before doing this, but if they can't find one here they cut salary, return a 2/3 (Okogie), a high 2025 2nd, and some future 2nds (2029 & 2031) with the potential to be high 2nds. This also gives them some assets with a longer time horizon to trade, which could have some benefits down the road when Utah is good and it is time to do the reverse of this (trade several 2nds for a rotation player).

DET trades: Sasser, Moore, 2025 TOR 2nd, 2029 MIL 2nd
in: Sexton
Detroit gets a player who can average 20/4/5 on great efficiency. He has great work ethic, is very fun, and a fantastic offensive player who has acquired more point guard skills since coming to Utah. The downside is obviously the defense, and it is unlikely to improve much since a lot of it comes down to size.

PHX trades: Okogie, 2026 DEN 2nd, 2031 DEN 2nd
in: Eubanks, Sasser
Phoenix splits Okogie up into a cost-controlled guard who gives them a decent backup to Tyus Jones + a backup F/C who is a reasonable minutes sponge and can take a bigger place in their rotation if and when they trade Nurkic. It's not sexy, but I think Sasser will be a more important part of their rotation than Okogie is.

You got a shout out from Andy Larsen at the Trib. He's either a lurker or he's one of us. 8-)

Came here to say the same thing… which one of you sickos is it?

It's me! Definitely more of a lurker than contributor, obvs... and also had another account here before 2015 in the Deron/Boozer Jazz days. But still fun to check in every once in a while and get an idea of trade values from fans around the league.

Now you are going to make me roll back time and guess which horribly unhinged poster from circa 2011 you were

This sounds great and all but does Utah even want to get rid of Sexton?

No one is ever fully un-tradable but Lauri and Kessler are the “un-tradable” players. I’m guessing Ainge looks at Sexton as the perfect 6th man on a good team but the Jazz are taking as many big swings as possible. My guess is he is trying to package Sexton and Collins together for a first round pick.

In a scenario where the Jazz actually want to be good sooner than later they probably would keep him. The Jazz are just a minimum 2-3 years away from actually wanting to win. They need to tank this year and next year. Next February is probably the first time you will see Ainge really go for it and trade picks for a player. This years example would be Fox. Whomever is that player next year….Utah will be bidding on him. And come next draft I think we see Ainge really start to get aggressive. Basically tank the hell out of the next two years, get as good of players as we can, evaluate all the young guys until the end of next season, and then start to get aggressive with trading. Thats my gut feeling on what he is doing. Or, it’s what I would do and I am just hoping that is what he is doing.

Trading Sexton and Collins will help the tank. But Ainge is not going to send either just to tank. I see proposals where the only valuable portion someone proposes is Utah gets worse for the tank. That type of trade is not happening (whether that’s smart is up for debate). Ainge would keep Sexton (or any player) if tanking was the only value coming back. Thats my gut feeling at least.

What's the problem? He's a solid backup no? :dontknow:

Phoenix passes as this trade doesn't really address any of their actual roster needs while having to give up two of their very last remaining assets just to add a mediocre player in Eubanks who doesn't really defend well or protect the rim (a critical need for them). And who they didn't/don't want anyways, otherwise they would just brought him back! And on top of that, we're giving up Okogie one of our top wing defenders who's having a great season and shooting close to 40% from three, further reducing our already thin wing depth while not at all addressing our critical needs for a shot-blocking/ rim running backup 5 and adding another solid 3 & D wing.

We also have no real need for Sasser due to already having both Jones and Morris on our roster. This trade has us giving up both depth and assets just to take back two players who don't address our critical needs just to facilitate value for the other two teams involved at our expense. Phoenix has to be very judicious with any trades, making sure that they not only make sense for us if giving up what little assets we have left. And the trades must successfully address our positional roster needs or provide legitimate depth at a position of need. neither condition is met here, so this is a really poor trade for Phoenix as a result. So no thanks! Phoenix will pass on this premise. :(

Detroit happy to do Sasser, Moore, a bunch of 2nds for Sexton (or cut either Sasser or Moore or both if they're not appealing).
