Ain't no way

It would be only if the Knicks free fall into a play-in seed

We are still the 3rd seed I think there are only 5 teams in the NBA with less losses than the Knicks

We fattened up our record on the softest first half schedule in the NBA by playing our starters 40 minutes a game.

We now have the toughest remaining schedule in the NBA with a bunch of tired and hobbling and demotivated starters.

The wheels can come off pretty quickly in these conditions

there's no defense that works when both your point guard and center can't play d at all. you wanna switch everything instead ? what other positions can jalen or kat guard effectively ? they can't guard the positions that they actually are.

thats also coaching... Indiana has even worse 1 and 5 combination but at least they push the ball and play faster

we do neither... JB needs at least 10 seconds to arrive near the 3pt line bringing the ball up

Hmm I wonder why thibs teams are always near the bottom when it comes to pace. It’s almost like the offense needs to be slowed down or guys wouldn’t have the energy to play the 40+ minutes he expects.

Look at Memphis where every player plays at 100% for short stints. Thibs asks players to play at 80% the entire game and they end up running out of gas in the 4th only able to muster up 50%.

If Mitch comes back and we start winning it further proves the guy can’t scheme for players he has, but rather players he needs

I know the simple way out is to blame Thibs, but the reality is the knicks knowingly gave up defense for premier offense. KAT is an exceptional offensive
Player, but his defense being so poor is a HUGE reason why the defense has dropped off considerably this year just as the offense efficiency has gone way up. This is NOT a coaching problem this is KAT is an awful defender problem

put me on record, i'll take a sore loser postgame kerfuffle at this point, i need to see more fight. stewart flexed his jersey on "cap" and he did nothing. the reason it doesn't matter to people that our record is better now than it was this time last year is that last year a lot of our L's were dogfights and this year we cashed in almost all of our chips. this isn't me being a "realGM" this is me as a fan analyzing why many fans aren't happy

Aside from the obvious minutes issues , my suspicion is Thibs just can't coach defense outside his comfort zone. In other words without an elite rim protecting 5 his D looks like dog doo doo. We need the rim protector badly or a new coach. There are a bunch of coaches who could do a better job with this current group than Thibs has so far.

Beasley was prancing up the court after his last three mocking everyone. Sad

Its true to a point. We have so many high level defenders on this team to compensate though. The D should NOT be quite this bad. Thibs badly needs his rim protector for his D to work.

Today's game is not rougher than it was last century, but players probably log considerably more mileage. And this takes a toll once you consistently play guys over the 32 minute mark.

Today's game is more pace oriented than it was 30 years ago. Historically, teams ran primarily half-court offenses until the advent of SSOL. Then Steph came along with shooters evolving into long-distance weapons. Pushing the ball to spot up shooters on the perimeter was less important in the past than now.

It is kind of ironic the team that currently looks the best is OKC whose main player operates mostly inside the perimeter and whose team creates pace by crushing teams defensively. But they only play their starters 30 minutes and have a full rotation which has guys fresh and ready to apply defensive pressure.

Thibs is stuck in the past. I don't GAF about old school ballers saying guys used to play big minutes because they came into camp in shape. It is a different game now and it is clear as day you're not going to handle an 82 game + playoff schedule playing guys 40 minutes.

This could be mitigated if we didn’t have an even worse defender at the poa in Brunson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can’t have a terrible defender at the pg and the center position and expect a decent defense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Need to move Kat tho the 4 and get a rim protector at the 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s the only way this will work unfortunately!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This gives me pause because it didn't work with Gobert but maybe a guy like Kessler with the sum of our other parts would be enough to elevate us.

Been saying it from the beginning but defense will not be good with the combination of awful defenders. This is not a defensive team, it’s an offensive team. Offensive execution needs to be better, 17 turnovers last night was not good. They still could have won if they executed better offensively.

But they tried switching a few times last night and it was a disaster. Tobias Harris almost broke KAT in the corner, Cade was blowing by him with ease for a layup, drawing fouls on him, Brunson was hunted and picked on. It’s terrible.

There is no fixing the defense so just stick to the drop coverage and be better executing offensively

i'm pretty much to the point now where i accept the reality that we're not winning with Brunson as our best player. it's not about him being a small guard as much as he's a poor defender on one end, and on the other he's not an elite playmaker. it could potentially work if you had the perfect team around him - but we've seen well coached teams exploit brunson and Kat relentlessly and we have no answer. offensively it's limited also because he's just not a great playmaker. you see cam come off the bench and get Kat a dunk on a PnR. how many times has brunson done that? he uses picks to get his own shot or to kick out after collapsing the defense. the way this team is constructed we would be better off with a playmaking lead guard. more realistically we need a playmaking 2 or wing to let him play more off ball.

maybe if OG and bridges legit were wing stoppers while algo being able to play make on the other end... but they're both limited offensively in the regard and at this point honestly overrated at best on defense.

it's a flawed team with a flawed coach. the window is still at least 3 years (maybe 4 meaning 3 years after this one) - so there is time to make tweaks and improve the roster (and maybe get rid of thibs) - but i went from thinking it was fairly decent odds they would win at least 1 in that window to now it feels like beyond a long shot to even make the finals (unless we get extremely lucky with opposing teams injuries or matchups etc).

it's unfortunate we went all in for this. i feel like our best moment in these next few years is going to be upsetting a favored team like the celtics, cavs etc in an earlier round series and then losing to a beatable team after that.

Minny had the best defense in basketball last year playing Kat at the 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it could work a little with Mitch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We’d definitely be better than what we are now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kessler is the dream target imo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Duece all our 2nd rd picks kolek dadiet give them all if we have too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tough loss on a b2b

Pistons with 46 points from their bench. Beasley with 22pts, we dont have anyone on our bench that can score like him like when IQ or Donte or Rose was here.

KAT's defense at center has been this bad since Minny that's why they had to get Gobert to be able to get to the wcf. We need Mitch back even if its off the bench so we at least have rim protection at some point in the game. What good is switching when you switch JB on an elite scorer

Can't deplete our bench entirely. Kolek OR Deuce not both. Maybe Ainge covets Kolek. I'd hate to give him up though.
