I don't think it's the defense of those two it's the overall team D. JB and KAT are not strong defenders, Hart is a hustle guy but not a stopper, and the loss of iHart and Mitch is felt. I'm seeing Thibs scheme is only good with a great rim protector, he can't adjust from drop coverage to a switching style. Even if Mitch comes back healthy they need to play drop when he's on court and a different way when Kat and the current starters are on. There's no indication Thibs is flexible like that.
I think a blind man should be able to see that we need more rim protection. OG is slow on the perimeter, he can make up for it, but only if his help is between the player and the rim. Need Mitch, need Hukporti (seems we are giving up on Sims) and need a 3rd piece (Eubanks? Theis?) so that we can always have the option of playing KAT at the 4 where although he is going to be slower, he can make up for it with lenth and close out speed.
Underrated angle - KAT is too heavy. He is like in fat-melo shape. He also has a very awkward gait when he moves without the ball (arms up like he is keeping them out of waist high water).
Biggest problem I see is that with KAT on the perimeter - we don't get 2nd chance points as much as we used to (though he is a great rebounder). With Randle (who has similar placement on the floor) we would have 1-2 bigs challenging for 2nd chance points, when iHart gets a board, he never went up with it, so that could become a 3 point shot.
KAT on the perimeter, we have 1 guy going for offensive boards (Hart)
12.6 - last seasons O rebounds per game
10.3 - this seasons O rebounds per game
On 1.2 point per possession, that's a difference of 2.75 ppg.
In terms of significance, that shift would put us above Bulls and Celtics (2 and 3 teams in PPG) at almost 120ppg trailing only Cavs at 122ppg in the east.
