It would be absolutely insane to pair KAT, Zion, and Brunson together on the defensive end. It's one of those "crazy enough to work" situations...

But, in theory, Bridges + Mitch for Zion + scraps could work if you get a 3rd team involved to grease the cap limits.

Nether of this work for apron reasons. In both cases the Knicks would be bringing in more salary than sending out, works need to sign an additional vet min falar and would be over the second apron.

Not sure anyone looked into this but it looks like we may not be able to get any better next season. With Brunson’s new salary we would still be above first apron unless we make moves. That means no mid level. Just more minimum salaries.

Knicks enter the offseason $13.47mm below the 2nd apron with 9 players under contract - Towns, Brunson, Bridges, Anunoby, Robinson, Hart, McBride, Kolek, Dadiet. The only draft pick they have is the most favorable of Celtics/Grizlies 2nd - likely a pick in the mid 50’s.

Minimum is 14 players on real contracts. Assuming the Knicks pick up Hukporti’s option and give a roster spot to their 2nd rd pick, that gets us to $10.3mm in 2nd apron space with 11 roster players. Assuming 2 vet slots at $2.1mm which leaves enough room for the taxpayer mle.

So essentially the only moves are replacing the vet min slots (Payne/shamet), replacing Precious with the taxpayer mle (or maybe brining Precious back in one of the min slots) and replacing Sims with a 2nd rd pick

I get that. But Williams has only played 12 games this season, and Thybulle has yet to play because of ankle issues. I think healthy players should be a priority.

Really? To me as a Raptors watcher he was all motor. Streaky shooting, questionable decision making, too skinny under the boards. But lots of hustle, good at flying out on closeouts and in for weakside blocks. Hustle and high motor are his strengths.

But you're right his value is not high. I'm not sure how much impact he'd have with his lack of offensive consistency.

I think the part that is not appreciated enough is it doesn’t matter to Thibs what style you are playing. If you happened to be on starting five, you play crazy minutes. If you happen to be on the bench, you don’t play. That is it. Look at the minutes McBride and Precious are getting from the bench vs when they had to start. Look at Cam Payne and his only start this year.
