I mean, when you keep having hot takes, you'll get attention. Kendrick Perkins is still relevant and he was a rotation player for about 4-5 years.

He could have been an all time great, but was always a bit of a clown. It started before he even played in the NBA when he fell to the 2nd round.

He has done well, all the guys he has gathered on his podcast are players that couldnt really do much or didnt have much going for them in the brain development.. makes it entertaining. Also he is a real racist, and hella bias …

lol so many snobs in here. These clips are hilarious but I guess it’s a waste of time whereas posting on a bball message board isn’t.

He was a great player who's career was cut short by injury and yes the gun incident contributed.

He was all star and all NBA for 3 seasons in a row before injury struck at 26 years old.

One of them, in their prime was an all-star and top 10 in MVP votes.

The other in his prime was a starter on his middle school team.

They’re not the same.

Way better than Nick Wright, Windhorst, and Shannon Sharpe off the top of my head. He has the best basketball show right now.

All it takes to be "relevant" these days is to make stupid hot takes on a regular basis. So ya I guess he's "relevant" in the same way Skip Bayless and Perkins are.

He's also incredibly misogynistic.

The real question people should be asking is how can anyone like this clown?

I know scoring 60 against Kobe is no small cultural feat. But c’mon. Think about how often his name is brought up these days, compared to far superior players of his generation. Like Amare Stoudemire, Jermaine O’Neal, Shawn Marion, Peja Stojakovic, Joe Johnson, Deron Williams, etc. Even someone like John Wall (same franchise, more success, more talent, not as far removed from playing) isn’t nearly as revered and remembered.

Can Gil be seen as a revolutionary in the digital space? Is this the route that more players should take in order to stay remembered over time?

I’d put Gil ahead of all those players except Amare

Same with Chandler Parsons who had a few good years with the Mavs and then ripped off other teams for egregious contracts after. He’s more known now for having a hot wife and yet even he has his own podcast or show where he has extremely dumb takes often.

Society has decided to reward those who are loud regardless of the substance. So expect there to be more of these types of players.

He's very arrogant, erroneously lies that he was a perennial superstar, is verifiably crazy and will make insane controversial statements all the time to keep himself in the NBA news cycle.

No different from what a moron like Trump does.

This is why he is popular. Casual fans love pompous, arrogant pricks who act like they know everything.

Even at his peak he was a bit overrated. He was pretty inefficient, bad defensively, wasn't a good facilitator, and didn't do anything relevant in the playoffs.

Note that the Wizards won 45, 42, 41 and 43 games during his peak in a weak eastern conference, not that impressive. And it's not like his supporting cast was terrible...he had a couple really nice players like Jamison and Caron Butler with him.
