Ball's per 36 numbers are pretty remarkable. He's outperforming his per 2021-2022 per 36 output in rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks. Less turnovers too. His scoring is down but that's primarily because he's still finding his shooting rhythm, which I'm optimistic will come back with time. He's been shooting better over his last three games (also three straight double-digit scoring nights), so maybe it's already trending in the right direction.
If he can stay healthy, he's the best player here. I'm okay paying him more than other teams if there's a ton of built-in protections for us.

I think it's hard to debate the effectiveness of the Ball/Lavine pairing and if we're not tanking, I'd really like AK to keep them as part of the new core. That said, we need a new #1 option to add to that mix to contend, and IMO, we lack the assets to get that guy.

I might be wrong, but weren't most of those injuries related to his knee? Theoretically, they might be mostly behind him since he's basically got a new knee.

At least half those injuries looks like he came back too fast. Hip 3/20/21, then hip 4/8/21. Abductor 11/7 and also 11/9? Ankle 11/9/18 and also 11/28/18. Health and safety protocols doesn't count.
Sore left knee 1/14/18, left knee again 3/29/18. knee 1/12/21. knee 1/15/22, lasted years. definitely the major contributor.

Trade White. Only re-sign Ball for a team friendly deal

Giddey depends on price and if he is ok with being backup PG.. but nothing more than 15M per..
Lonzo Ball a healthy player is all star player for this team.. starting PG and if he can "survive" with team friendly short term deal,
lets keep him.. maybe 10-12M per 2 years deal

Re: Giddey vs. Ball (vs. White) who do we keep next season?
Of the 3 I personally believe that Ball sholdn't be an option, as good as he has played he is an injury liability, he is ALWAYS injured and why risk paying for that AGAIN. Every single post in this thread keeps saying "Ball, when healthy, is an all-star or best player"...well thats the key there isn't it, when healthy.....
Between Giddey and White, I think Giddey has more potential to be the biggest factor but at the right price. White is good but streaky and likely wanting to get paid after his prove it deal is done.

So what is the most that people would pay to keep Giddey and/or Ball (not the target price, the highest price you'd be willing to pay)?

For me and I know i'm likely gonna be way off with what they get but this would be what I personally would be willing to pay to keep.
GIddey in the (DLO - Rozier range) - $18-25 mil for 4-ish years (Ideally Malcolm Brogdan's Contact) this gives him money, but also still a long the lines of Coby, Ayo, Pat as a "prove to me your worth paying big bucks in the future"
Ball in the (Jevon Carter - Mike Conley range) $5-10 mil for a 1+1 years (ideally McConnell/GP2) this gives him a little money, but allows a chance to see if the health is really there or not
White (when its his time) in the (DLO - Murray range) $18-29 mil for 4-ish years (ideally low end of that) his streakyness puts him lower end but he'll want big bucks after his last prove it deal

I think Zion can still be that guy. And I think we have the assets to go get Zion while keeping Ball and LaVine. I'm really hoping AK is looking at that.

This looks pretty realistic. Would give Ball more, in the $10-20 mill/yr range, but with injury protections.

Ball is just playing for another contract. The minute he gets that bag he is going to be injured again. There is absolutely positively no freaking way I would give him another long term contract. Regardless of how much its for.

I might go as high as just a shade above the MLE for either of them, but not both, and that's my high point. I basically think we should trade Giddey before the deadline and then consider trying to resign Ball to something under the MLE for only 2-3 years.

What to do with Ball is an interesting case.
If ever a team deserved a hometown discount, it's us and Lonzo.
