Sacramento Kings fans are wondering where Kevin Huerter is on this list.

I don't either. At all. But I suspect Wemby is going to give him a run. This place always overvalues rookie contracts and undervalues elite level players in their prime. And always assumes the best case will happen with no injuries even when a player is of an archtype that has literally never escaped major injury issues. Like KP might be the healthiest version of this guy. Let that sink in for a moment before talking about the next 15 years of Wemby....

Wish you were right and I was wrong on this, but I knew the Wemby hype was going to lead to this.

But I stand by there is 0% chance Denver trades Jokic for Wemby unless Jokic specifically demands out. Fair if one believes the Spurs wouldn't do it anyway I guess, but this common belief Denver would consider trading by far the best player in the world in his prime just boggles my mind.

I'm old enough to remember when Greg Oden was a shoe-in to win multiple championships/MVPs etc.

With Wemby it's not just premature hype based on future promise though. The kid is already third in the league in EPM. It's hard to keep him out of the conversation for the top spot. I've got zero problem with anyone having him or SGA or Joker at the top of their list.

Sounds like you’re old enough that your memory is slipping, because I’m old enough to remember that Oden had chronic foot problems in college, and everyone knew he was a walking time bomb. Portland took a risk because if they got lucky, he was gonna be a monster. Philly perhaps learned from this and only took Embiid because their risk was acceptable at that point. Worked out for them, msotly, until now. Could have been the same for Portland if they’d been more fortunate.

In any case, Wemby doesn’t have those problems, just a slight frame. And not freakishly slight like Chet, just a bit. I know the track record for really tall and thin guys isn’t great, but don’t forget Kareem. Wemby should have nearly the same body at the same age (Kareem’s still in college for a couple years at this point), so it can be done.

Not sure we can cherry pick Kareem, a longevity outlier, who was much more stout and played a much different game. Ralph Sampson, a much more apt comparison, but of course, one that shows the risk. Along with KP, another more apt comparison, alas also shows the risk. And as mentioned, Chet.

Again, I hope Wemby lasts 2 decades and has an amazing career. I root for all players to have success. But its a huge factor that Jokic has proven to be extremely durable and has played at a level far above what Wemby is showing. And that's huge because Wemby is already really good. But Jokic is just different.
