Suns Acquire Nick Richards, One 2nd Rounder From Hornets For Josh Okogie, Three 2nds

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jan 15, 2025 9:47 pm

The Phoenix Suns have acquired Nick Richards and one second round pick from the Charlotte Hornets for Josh Okogie and three second round picks.

The Suns have been looking for an upgrade at center with Jusuf Nurkic falling out of favor with Mike Budenholzer.

Can someone explain to me why the Charlotte Hornets seem to routinely do things that hurt their own team? Here they have (had) a center that seemingly "had a market," with a series of suitors, and they trade him for... a guy that won't move the needle (Okogie) and 2nd round picks a half-decade from now?

We need the Premier League system, where bottom feeders like Charlotte lose their NBA status. They are a f*n joke of a franchise.

Yeah Richardson was a solid, young rotation player on a good deal.
I don’t even know who their center is now lol
Pretty stupid deal imo. You can literally buy second round picks

The literally did just by 2nds, and the 2nd they gave up will be in the 50's. CHA doesn't need a complete roster to tank and the tank will continue beyond this season. Free agents leave tanking teams unless they are overpaid and Richards is not the kind of player teams want to overpay.

It was a good piece of business for CHA. They got two 2nds while trading for a player that might have similar value on the open market. I wouldn't be surprised if they turn Okogie into another 2nd or two before all is said and done.

Mark Williams is back from injury. He's much better than nick richards. I'm sure they like josh okoggie and see that the suns didn't use him correctly. He's a energy player. Can play every position outside of center.he needs minutes but the thing is he won't play much in Charlotte either. It's a good trade just not a meaningful one. Hornets need for a backup center can be addressed in the draft. There actually slowly moving in the right direction. I think lamelo needs to be traded. He's always hurt and he shoots way to much. I know that sounds crazy but how many wins is lamelo adding?

Ok, you win.
If the plan is to continue to be one of the worst teams in the league for the foreseeable future, then it was a good trade.

So, trading Richards is going to prevent Charlotte from being a better team in the future? You do realise Diabate had played himself into the backup role? This isn’t a bad trade and Nick gets a chance to start. Mark Williams is obviously the future in Charlotte.

I posted this before the game last night, so that would require a crystal ball or Time Machine.
