Thibs won't play him anyway. I wonder how Mitch is going to crack the bench rotation now. Thibs has it locked up with 2.5 players never getting any consistent run.

Thibs will play Mitch 25 mins in his 1st game back and starting by the 2nd game lol

Yeah, once you've earned Thibs' "trust," you're guaranteed playing time for basically life. The problem then seems to be to get him to stop playing you (in cases of exhaustion and/or injury...).

I was being facetious. Thibs will run Mitch into the ground and DNP/CD the other 3 C's on the roster until Mitch is broken.

Yeah, that sounds more like it. Thibs will only stop playing "his core" when they are dead....
RIP magnumt--you're literally why I'm still here on these boards.

Because both Mitch and Precious are better than him, and those are the only players we could have traded for him

He’s an elite rim protector, rebounder, and shot blocker. Mitch will allow OG and Mikal to focus more on the perimeter while Mitch guards the interior. Right now OG and Mikal are forced for cover for KAT, Brunson and Hart and it’s wearing them down. Our offense will take a hit but our defense is going to improve immensely.

I agree Mitch will help but, we had Mitch before and the results are still the same. Sag off of the perimeter to help. Nothing has changed except we have better defenders running themselves ragged trying to run the scheme.

Mitch had to cover for 4 guys - Brunson, Grimes, RJ, and Randle. Grimes is the only decent defender from this group. Mitch literally carried that defense lol Mitch would be playing with a far better group this time around.

And then create offensive issues which negate the defensive positives

Last semi healthy season when Mitch played (2022-2023) the Knicks had an 114 offensive Rating and that’s with all the bricks Randle, RJ, and Quickley threw up. He would playing with a far superior shooting team this around. I don’t think the team takes as big of hit offensively as people think.

I will believe it when I see it. If guys don't sag off the perimeter I'll be shocked. Weak side defenders always have a foot in/near the paint no matter who it is. Hope you're right but, I don't believe it.

This is the answer. The Knicks would make this trade with Mitch IF they weren't sold on his health AND they hated their wing depth (the trade with Richards and Martin)

The wing depth still sucks but maybe they address that some other way. Via the Jericho Sweepstakes

Outside of the WASH protected 1st we don't own 2nd rd picks with as much value as the PHX/DEN 2031 1's.

We also would have had to throw Precious into the deal to make the salary work.

Look back to the Cleveland series in 2023 to see what kind of impact Mitch can have. You don't get it consistently. He isn't on the court consistently. But at his best he is extremely impactful protecting the rim and dominating the glass.
