I think you'll see top 5 protection on that 2031 1st
It would have to turn into a 2nd round pick if it doesn't convey in 2031 with that protection
Why would we give up so much? Who are we bidding against?

As predicted, Just like Dame was "Miami or bust" until he wasn't. It sucks to lose Khris from the standpoint that he's been a great guy and Bucks legend, maybe he opts out and takes a small deal to come back here? But yeah you get Butler if you can and as much as I don't like it if the dealbreaker was the 2031 pick is unprotected I'd still do it.

No thanks to Butler, and no chance I'm throwing in the 2031 1st on top of Middleton +.

Re: Bucks News, Transactions, Trade Ideas
Butler has made 12 3s this year. Do we really want to add a non 3-point threat to the starting five with Giannis, and further complicate playoff spacing? You add Butler in place of Prince in the starting five, and you are trading usage away from Dame/GA for worse 3-point shooting (replacing Prince), while massively weakening the bench assuming you jettison Middleton and Portis. It does not make us better, period.

The spacing issue and overall chemistry is my concern with Jimmay. It's been a year and a half and we still don't know how well Giannis and Dame play together, adding Jimmay to the mix is a real wild card offensively. Is he ok with not getting the ball in ISO situations? Is he just going to hustle his butt off and attack the rim and the glass?
Middleton's shooting and playmaking is more important for us right now on paper, but I don't trust him to stay healthy and even if he is healthy he doesn't have the mobility to survive defensively against Boston. In that respect, Butler's athleticism would be a massive massive upgrade and give us a chance to actually defend their wings for a change.

I believe Middleton's defensive issues are somewhat mitigated with the move to the bench. We are keeping him there for clutch time offense and decision-making.

Re: Bucks News, Transactions, Trade Ideas
Come playoff time we have no one who can slow down elite players from the East. Do we really trust anyone on this roster to get a timely defensive stop...Giannis can't do it all and he's more of a elite help defender.
Elite spacing is not going to help us stop anyone in the playoffs. Dame/Giannis/Jimmy is enough offense to win in the playoffs

Trading for Dame had me incredibly excited.
Trading for Butler just makes me incredibly nervous.

Lopez
Giannis
Butler
Green/GTJ
Dame
I don't see the issue...
Giannis
Prince
Butler
Green/GTJ
Dame
Still no issue. We're only starting AJJ right now because the old guys need his energy. Come playoff time that won't be necessary.

This is the conundrum. Zero concerns offensively with Khris because he's still the perfect compliment to Giannis with his mid-range mastery and their chemistry. But his body is breaking down, and we're years removed from him being able to survive playing 30+ minutes over an 82-game season.
I get that he was "healthy" and looked great against the Pacers in 6-games last playoffs, but let's be honest with ourselves here. At the end of that series, it looked like he was being held together by duct tape and super glue. He was absolutely gassed, and while he certainly wouldn't be asked to carry that kind of load with a healthy Giannis, the biggest concern is whether he's capable of surviving through four intense rounds of playoff basketball. There were already points in that Miami series where guys like Duncan Robinson and Caleb Martin were blowing right by him. I just don't see how that's not gonna be a huge issue 2-years and a double ankle surgery later.

I believe we are 3rd in defensive rating since the 2-8 start and are 9th overall on the season. The above statement just isn't true.

Re: Bucks News, Transactions, Trade Ideas
How do you choose?:
Middleton - he's been a key part of your team for a decade, has great chemistry with your franchise player, and by all counts has been unproblematic off the court his entire tenure here. Has proven he can step up when it matters in the playoffs. Also his body may just be completely breaking down to the point where he can't be a full time rotation player anymore. You kind of know what you have here but also not really? Would we miss his shotmaking? Or is it just time to make a hard choice finally cut ties before the bottom completely falls out. Is there any chance he can work himself back into the version of Khris that can help us win against the top teams in a playoff setting?
Butler - older, also not a picture of reliable health and that doesnt seem likely to improve as he ages. Maybe (probably?) a better overall player right now than the somewhat physically broken 2025 current version of Khris. At 35 years old how far off his peak has he fallen? I honestly haven't seen him play this season. If he's still that guy he would definitely add a different dimension to the team with more defense/rebounding/toughness that could be a real X factor against the top teams, especially in a playoff setting. Whether he is solely at fault everytime or not he seems to consistently find a way to become a problem or the center of some drama. Will he fall in line on a team where he might be the 3rd option on offense? Do we want to deal with that risk?

Do they want to take the all-in, short-term risk or stand pat and hope for longer-term sustained success, with no real chance of a title this year? Neither option is appealing to me.

There's more than 2 options.

One thing I haven’t seen brought up (may have missed it) is that if we get under the second apron, doesn’t it open up more options for sign & trades with Butler this offseason if he opts out?
Do it for Chuck

I don't even think standing pat has any hope of longer-term sustained success. The impact guys aren't going to start getting healthier and more athletic as they get even older.

Yes, it also gets Middleton and I'm guessing Connaughton off the books and possibly avoids having to pay Bobby. It's a no brainer move.
