Myles Turner value?

Post#1 » by zimpy27 » Thu Jan 16, 2025 5:07 pm

Pacers probably try keep him but they are $26m under 1st apron next season, I expect to keep him they have to jump that, perhaps even jumping the 2nd apron.

Is this something the Pacers are prepared to do?

What teams would trade for his expiring deal?

I've been trying to get Turner on the Warriors since 2020 but I don't think we have the right pieces to make a compelling offer

Yeah, you dump Toppin if you’re not willing to go far enough over the tax to keep both. So if that’s the only reason he would be available then he isn’t available IMO.

Although Toppin plays his part amazingly, they are probably ready to move in in the offseason and let Walker take his minutes.

I do think this caps their ceiling to depending on further development from Nembhard, Walker, Mathurin and Furphy(don't believe Sheppard will be a difference maker), and rebouding is a bit of an weakness with both Pascal and Turner on the floor(and having Mathurin at the 3).

If I'm the Pacers I'd actually trade Ben Sheppard + Wiseman + 2nd rounder for Jalen Smith.

8 points and 5 rebounds in 15 minutes of play with decent 3pt%, and worked really well in his role last year for them, can help with rebounding off the bench

Ben Sheppard has already proven he can be a difference maker in his role. He had some really good playoff games as a rookie last year.

Jalen Smith fell out of the rotation on the Pacers. He was replaced by Jackson. Can’t see Smith wanting to come back to the Pacers and the Pacers certainly wouldn’t give up Ben Sheppard for him, much less throwing in more. Thomas Bryant has been fine filling in that role for them.

I know Detroit would love to make an offer for Turner if he’s available, but I can’t see the Pacers being that unwise.

I think Toppin has been great and he's locked in for cheap. Surprised he's on the block.

Pacers need a starting C more than they need a good backup 4

Right but doesn't mean he should be the cut.

Why not cut another player that isn't locked in on a good deal?

Rebounding is the pacers biggest issue and Turner is a bad rebounder. I wonder if they aren't looking elsewhere for a better big option. Why not Kessler?

Feel free to trade Detroit Turner for Duren. Better rebounder for sure. :)

The ability to shoot away from the rim is a huge desire for the Pacers offense. It’s why Thomas Bryant has been such a solid fit. Kessler wouldn’t be a great fit in that regard, and would require a large retool of the offensive system midseason, if acquired.

Obi has been a great fit too. But we acquired Siakam. And Jarace Walker is really growing into being a great contributor. Obi is the easy trade, as his lack of defensive ability is a bigger weakness for the team than anything about Nesmith or else.

Turner can not be extended. He will be a free agent after the season period. Pacers want to keep him but may have to move someone they also like to make the numbers work.

Don't think there's any chance either team goes for it, but if they did...and Robinson / Nesmith were both back on the court...I wonder how the draft compensation would work out for something like:

to IND:
Bridges + Robinson + Sims
to NYK:
Turner + Nesmith + Walker + (Wiseman)

IND
Robinson | Bryant
Siakam | Toppin
Bridges | Mathurin
Nembhard | Sheppard
Haliburton | McConnell
+
Q.Jackson, Furphy, Freeman, Sims, (I.Jackson)

NYK
Turner | Achiuwa
Towns | Walker
Anunoby | Nesmith
Hart | McBride
Brunson | Payne
+
Kolek, Shamet, Dadiet, Hukporti, (Wiseman)

I rate Robinson higher as a defensive anchor, so with Bridges upgrading on Nesmith as their bigger wing defender, Indy could put a top 10 defense around Hali & Siakam...Mitch's durability is a problem, but Mikal being an ironman does offset some of the risk they take on with Mitch. Plus we give them a live body 3rd C to replace the injured Wiseman.

We'd make it easier for Thibs to stagger our starters with the bench and spread out our injury risk across multiple players while giving Thibs another rotation-ready guy to keep everyone fresh:
Brunson - Hart/McBride - Anunoby/Nesmith - Walker - Turner
Payne - Hart/McBride - Anunoby/Nesmith - Achiuwa - Towns
