For his age I think he's equal with Wade and 2nd to only Jordan.
Btw, Harden, Jordan, Wade and West all made more assists than SGA. SGA is as big as all of them.
The discussion of PG or SG is moot, all of these 5 players were elite guards who could have played anywhere from PG to SF depending on team.

Regarding Shai vs MJ, you don't overcome players like Jordan in the RS. That's just not how NBA basketball works.

88 and 91 Jordan are better seasons than this Shai RS. Could also argue 89 is better too.
91 MJ

88 MJ

89 MJ

25 Shai
BPM-11.8
Estimated RAPTOR-9.8
WAR/82-19.9
Backpicks BPM-8.3
Crafted Plus-Minus-7.3
Shai is a good team defender. But MJ is maybe the best defender ever at the SG position. The real difference between them is that MJ is a much better man defender. He is more athletic, so he's better laterally, and cover ground more quickly. Both are fine as weakside rim-protectors, but maybe Shai has a slight edge due to length?
I would also say that despite the volumes being similar, MJ's scoring was more valuable relative to era than Shai. +6 rTS% today just means less than it did during Jordan's times, because TS% is so high. A stat that tries to adjust for this like ScoreVal, kind of exemplifies that difference.
91 MJ
ScoreVal-2.8
88 MJ
ScoreVal-2.5
89 MJ
ScoreVal-2.3
Shai's ScoreVal this year is at 1.9. He's not quite creating the same separation as Jordan did as a scorer. As an offensive player today, I think there is expanded possibility to create room as a playmaker with all the spacing and potential reads that can be made. I think Shai is arguably gaining some extra playmaking value that Jordan never had with his relentless driving, but I don't know if it really makes up the scoring and playmaking gap, and the numbers would suggest he doesn't either.

He's a point guard.

Re: Current SGA vs all-time SGs
Some of us put a lot of emphasis on postseason performance. Not that Shai can't get there, but he doesn't have the PS resume yet. Nowhere close to ATG guards.
If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention.
