Considering this season, at best, results in a playoff berth with no chance of reaching the heights of last year, yes, Dillingham should be receiving minutes.

Seems that RD is fit and got a good game in G League today. Hope the kid back soon with the team and contribute. I see him becoming Garland style.

Watching him right now, he looks like a G league player. If he wasn’t drafted at 8 but 18 this is where he would be, and watching him play people wouldn’t argue it.

He maybe a G leaguer but sadly still look the best out of all the players picked by Connelly.

It’s okay to not be NBA ready at 19, regardless of where he was drafted. It is also important to not make unrealistic demands of him while he is developing. That is how you undermine confidence and slow development.

Dilly called up after a 2nd mediocre GLeague game.

17 Points (6/24, 0/4), 7 Rebounds, 5 Assists, 1 Steal, 6 Turnovers.

Donte is out against the Knicks. I suspect Dillingham will get some play time tonight.

NYK physical guards will eat Rob alive

Maybe. The bigger issue tends to be strength PLUS size. Brunson and McBride are both smaller guards, so Rob might have a chance to do well.

Is this in regards to his G league play? If so, idk how true it is. I haven't seen his G league games but numbers wise, TSJ went down there and dominated. Now idk if Rob's shot was just off while he played a well rounded game or if it was something else.

Either way, I would like to see both get a chance on the main roster.

Rob was having more than just a bad shooting game. He looked like the smallest guy on the floor. His ball skills led to a lot of sloppy turnovers. He lacks finishing packages off the drive and gets blocked easily. He looked like the least skilled guard in the Iowa rotation and even though he ended plus 6, they did better in key moments with Rob off the floor. He also rarely created for any teammates. He couldn’t beat defenders off the dribble and didn’t have the expected offensive gravity of an NBA player much less a top 10 pick. I have some hope that Rob will develop, but at this point he is much more at home in the G then the NBA.

They're not the tallest guards, but they're both ~200 lbs.

Just looking at his game log, when he plays more than 15 minutes, which was 2 games, he puts up decent numbers. I think if he can tighten up on defense and take care of the ball, he could be more productive than Conley.

Against the Rockets at the end of November, he put up 12 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds in 24 minutes. Those are numbers I was looking forward to from him this season.

His scoring appears to be more consistent than Conley. It's more explosive offense, for sure. I think it's the lack of defense and taking care of the ball, which is holding him back. Probably just need to slow it down a bit and get more experience since he is young still.

I don't expect anyone to step in for 2 games and make a huge impact. He doesn't know the team and the team doesn't know him. I know TSJ did but he's 4 years older with more experience.

The question I always have when a player only puts up better numbers with more minutes is - does more minutes that night lead to better play, or did his better play that night lead to more minutes?

I think thinking of Finch and knowing Rob was in that 9th man role, his good play led to more minutes.

Basketball is a confidence game more than perhaps any other sport. If a guy sees the ball go through the hoop and feels confident he is more likely to make it happen again. If he sees himself missing multiple shots it can affect defense, free throw shooting, really everything. Some guys can turn it on and off easily. They don’t depend on the rhythm and flow of the game for their confidence. Other guys need that consistency. Naz and DDV are both those type players. Play to their strengths and give them the time they need, and their numbers will look much better, well above the expected volume boost. I don’t know that Rob is one of those guys. In Rob’s case I think that Finch has him on a very short leash with a half rotation. If Finch gets frustrated or Dilly looks really bad, then Dilly gets the short erred play time. When he looks confident and is playing well that makes Finch more comfortable leaving him in. Time will tell if he needs more minutes to reach his peak like Naz, or if he can come in and make a difference regardless of minutes like NAW.

Great game from Dilly. Yes his defense is awful but he can shoot, pass the ball. Give him one more year and he can be a good surprise.
