Only two players make the salary requirements under the apron rules. Both rookies.

Sims 2.097mil

Maxwell Lewis 1.891mil
Jalen Wilson 1.891mil

Sims + SRP for TPE. We can use that salary to sign other players cut after the deadline. Sounds like something that would piss me off thus plausible.

what players who make less than MLE will be cut and are good enough to be rotation? knicks cant sign anyone who makes more than MLE and was cut.

which MLE? The full one or tax payer?

Either way - I am really thinking of the vet min guys who signed on to teams that are under performing.
Daniel Theis is someone that I am looking at.
Paul Reed is another one. There could be players like Plumlee who get traded away from where they are and are cut by a receiving team.

This is interesting. BAM and KAT would be interchangeable at the 4/5, with BAM upgrading our defense and providing additional playmaking from the elbow. But the last year of BAM's contract concerns me.

Given the 2nd apron rules, you really want to limit being a second apron team 3 years in a row. And while BAM makes about $2.5MM less than OG next year, his $59MM player option in 28/29 is about $11MM more than OG's. In 2029, Brunson will be on a new contract (likely a full max), Bridges will be in the 3rd year of his new contract (and he has all the leverage in the world to get a similar deal to OG after what NY gave up to get him) and KAT will be a free agent. What's more, we won't have draft picks in 29 and 31, so a reset isn't going to be in the cards. All the guys will be in their early 30's and if we have the kind of playoff success we are hoping for, with a lot of miles on their bodies.

On the flip side, if BAM raises your ceiling over the next 4 seasons, it might make sense to pull the trigger and consider the 29 and 31 picks sunk costs.

I'd consider Bridges + Hart + + Sims + Rokas for Bam + Jovic + Burks.

Bam + KAT + OG + Deuce + Brunson gives us enough defense, rim protection, and offense/defense to hang with the top teams. This is assuming Bam can get back to his motivated self during those recent finals runs.

Bench is also bolstered with the addition of Jovic and Burks.

TimeLord + Deni (or Thybulle)
Cam Johnson + Sharpe

We'd have to give up most of our remaining tradable assets but getting a big wing off the bench that can play 30 minutes and a big that can play 20 minutes can step us up to the next tier.

These proposals are wild. I wouldn’t go that far. Mitch, if healthy, is probably the best fit we could add. I’ve proposed Kessler+Sexton as unrealistic dream scenario for any combination of Robinson, Payne and any young assets or picks necessary.

But touching core pieces should be a no-go, not even Deuce imo. This will play out just fine.

I just read an article stating the Knicks are considering trading Kolek and 5 future draft picks for Walter Kessler of the Jazz.

I would love to do a trade for Kessler and Clarkson for Mitch and Kolek and 1 FRP. Alas, I think Ainge is going to want way more than that.

Kessler will look great in that 8 minutes per game time.

I swear to all the higher powers if we have a bench full of midgets again light last year I am out.

Last year our bench was Burks, McBride, Hart and we were in talks for Bruce friggin Brown.
No. No. Never. No
Get me a 6'8"+ player. Preferably 6'10" shot blocker.
No more repeats.
We just drafted one of those guys who was supposed to be "NBA ready" and Lonnie Walker is just chillin on FA. I got little people galore available. No. No assets to further allow Thibs to march out shooting guards at the power forward position.

The whole ppl thinking offense will somehow go down tubes when Mitch returns is laughable. Sure it might be slightly less efficient than when we are playing 5 out but with the huge uptick in defense and uptick in rebounding (especially offensively) his value will more than make up for it.

Also he wont be playing 5 the whole game just 20-28 minutes worth most likely with the rest going to KAT. Both KAT and Precious will get a bit more minutes at the 4.

OG is the best player in the deal.

Best is debatable, but he’s the most likely to be available this season. Herb is probably done, and Mitch… who knows, dude could come back and then get hurt again like he always does, and same could be said for Zion. But the way Thibs is pushing the pedal to the metal with OG, I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes down at some point too.

That being said, OG’s shooting and overall play is drastically declining every single month no doubt due to overuse, but Zion is trending the opposite way (he’s obviously been out tho), and his bully ball game could be a better complement/fit alongside KAT and Jalen. Basically giving us a different dynamic and something fitting for our slower pace and the playoffs.

We’d just have to pray on a nightly basis that he gives 100% to his health/longevity here now that he’s where he wants to be and that he stays injury free especially with Thibs at the helm.

Mitch's declining contract... is interesting. This year NY could trade him for players like Jordan Clarkson or Daniel Gafford straight up. Next year after his deal kicks in Mitch's salary will be less than Jordan Clarkson and Daniel Gafford. NY would have to include another player to make the salary work. IF NY is over the 2nd apron they wouldn't be able to do that. So the declining contract he signed years ago was great at the time, but now with his questionable injury history and the new bargaining agreement... not so much.

The new bargaining agreement completely reshaped what NBA teams are able to do. Since the rules have changed, NY has stopped signing players to contract that declines. This is noteworthy. Mcbride's contract is also declining BTW.

If our bench was locked in no worries. This all would be great. But since we're still reconfiguring the bench with the assets we have I think NY will possibly move these guys to get more value in return rather than wait until the contracts have depreciated.

Return to New York Knicks
