Him opting in is absolutely bad news for the Heat. Most over-paid aging stars with a player option have played ball with their current team and opted out and extended at a lower number. Chris Paul, Jrue, Gobert. The Heat would be overjoyed if Jimmy could just opt out and go away clearing their books. Jimmy opting in forces the Heat into the tax again and paralyzes them for another year. How many teams will be willing and able to absorb Jimmy’s contract without sending back similar money to the Heat?

I think the Heat are going to make his life miserable. According to Tim Hardaway Sr, the Heat sent the NBPA a 10-page letter and video of why they suspended Butler. Rumor is that was only a fraction of the goods they have on him. I doubt it gets to the point where he opts in with the Heat. The past few days have been both sides using the media to mudsling. I can't imagine they just let him suit up and play on Friday.

Yeah, I agree he’s not playing for the Heat again but I’m just saying him opting in is not good new for the Heat. They have to basically make a bad trade right now to get out of this in my opinion and cut their losses. Maybe they have a bunch of stuff on Jimmy justifying the suspension but in my experience you don’t get to save up on in fractions and then cash them all in at the same time when you don’t like how things are going. If they wanted to go this route they needed to start earlier and make the suspensions incremental. So maybe a game or two of the suspension will hold up not the full 7 games. In the end, Jimmy is going to go to a place where he get paid and opt out and extend helping his new team and himself.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

If he opts in, they can now trade him anywhere because the receiving team knows they have hm for the full season. I agree there will not be many suitors, but all it takes is one stupid team or owner (Ishbia). Ultimately I think Butler and Riley are putting pressure on the Suns to make a trade that nets them the required draft capital that they can then send out with Beal. Apparently there are teams that will take Beal if they are compensated for it with draft picks. And everyone has noticed Beal's body language lately (like barely joining huddles). He knows he's not wanted and will waive that NTC apparently. In the end I think Butler will get what he wants, but I do think he has met his match because Riley gets away with things that most other team execs do not (like constant tampering).

Not necessarily, Jimmy's got to play ball too. I'd far rather have Jimmy opting in than Beal opting in for 2027 with his NTC.

I find it really hard to believe Jimmy would opt out of $52M at 36yrs old regardless of where he ends up.

He's supposed to meet with Arison today or tomorrow but it's probably not going to change anything. I don't think there is any scenario where he ever plays for them again.

The lesson, and we learned it also, is you should trade your star player the second you know he is going to want a contract that you already know you will not pay.

Heat applying full court press today airing his dirty laundry (never travelling with team, never staying at same hotel, went AWOL in December, etc).

Based on K. Love's IG post, Jimmy is going around Riley and straight to the owner to work things out

He's actually expected to play tonight against Denver, on the same day Windhorst said "he wants to be traded immediately".
