BKN/DAL - CamJ nets all DAL assets

Post#1 » by aguiar95 » Sun Jan 19, 2025 12:06 pm

BKN in: Gafford, Kleber, Exum, '25 DAL 1st (top-4 protected), '31 DAL 1st swap (top-4 protected), '25 PHI 2nd.
BKN out: Johnson, Sharpe.

Why? Sell CamJ at his highest point and net a pick and a swap for that matter. Probably can turn Gafford into a protected 1st or 3-4 2nds to a playoff team needing a backup 5.

DAL in: Johnson, Sharpe.
DAL out: Gafford, Kleber, Exum, '25 DAL 1st (top-4 protected), '31 DAL 1st swap (top-4 protected), '25 PHI 2nd.

Why? Spend their last assets in what they see as a final piece in their core group (Doncic, Irving, Thompson, Grimes, Marshall, Washington, Lively, Johnson) and take a chance on Sharpe to compete with Powell for the backup 5 minutes (trade works without Sharpe/Exum, I just couldn't find a cheap backup 5 with the remaining assets - O-Max and 2nds).

Doncic/Dinwiddie
Irving/Grimes
Thompson/Marshall

Don't think its worth it for Dallas to go all in on a guy they can't even start ahead of the guys they have big money committed to.

A closing lineup of Luka, Kyrie, Klay, Cam, Lively is getting eaten up defensively. I don't think this clearly puts them ahead of OKC and hamstrings them in the future

BK does not want a 2025 pick from DAL. What are they going to do with it when they have 4 already? They would want the 2026 unprotected and that still isn't that valuable since DAL has Luka, Kyrie, and a decent crew around them. This would likely be pick 20 in 2026 and maybe pick 6-10 in 2031. If you take the pick protections off there might be something as the players are not worth much to BK.

top 4 protection for him is more than reasonable ? Considering one should be around the 20s while the other have lottery upside.

Hate it for Dallas. Could always use another good player, but spending all your assets and not getting a 2 way guy would hurt more than it helps

Doesn't feel like the right move for the Nets. They can do better.

Cam Johnson is not the player that DAL should give up all the remaining assets to go all in for
