Simons now has the worst plus/minus on the Blazers and advanced stats have them significantly worse on both offense and defense when he is on the floor.

He is a great offensive player with a TS% below 55 now. Average for a 2 guard is 57%.

I'm on record, I like the potential fit. I'd be OK taking a chance. But let's not talk about the guy like he should have trade value at 27 million.

Caldwell-Pope has been a Gary Harris clone this season. Orlando fans need to accept that the Magic need scoring from the 2-slot. Caldwell-Pope, Howard and a FRP has to be enough for Simons. Right?

And it is a trade that makes both teams better.

I’d offer Isaac and 2025 1st, wouldn’t rather keep KCP and see if it looks better next year. They can give Isaac a try and if not cut him.

Sports radio guys in Portland made the same joke, just have Simons stay in Orlando and not get on the team plane after the game.

That said, Portland isn’t taking Isaac and his contract. Saw some posters suggesting him as the salary trade piece, but that would be a non-starter in a deal for Simons. His contract is too long for what little he provides on the court (let me know if there’s some Team Option I’m unaware of, Hoopshype shows it’s fully guaranteed).

Either it would be a non-starter or Portland would require 2 FRPs in return, one for Simons and one to eat that awful Isaac contract.

Portland probably wouldn’t want KCPs contract either tbh. I suspect their goal is to not take back any contracts longer than what they’re sending out unless there’s draft incentive added to it for the extra year(s).

I still think Harris, Anthony and a first for Simons is the best deal for both sides. I’m fine with Jett too replacing Harris like the BS Podcast mentioned, but the salaries don’t work. I also know zero about Jett other than he’s got a cool name, so no idea what his value is to Orlando.

I love Simons and might not willingly even trade Isaac straight up for Simons, although I'd do it if Time Lord was attached, to equal salaries and at least approach Isaac's interior defense (not perimeter) and injury history.

Isaac's deal is far from guaranteed, there are quite a few opportunities to cut him loose...also, it drops from $25m this season to $15m (!!!) per year for the duration. The flexibility of his deal, imo, offsets his injury risk and presumed minutes limitation. I hate having that dark cloud of injury constantly hanging...but for $15m per and lots of outs in case of catastrophic injury, I'm happy to keep him, even if just for tremendous defensive impact for 15-20 mpg.

I agree KCP makes little sense for POR, but maybe a 3-way as any contender would benefit from KCP's presence.

Spotrac is my go-to for contract details.

That seems like too much for Simons. I think you could get away with Cole + Jett + our 1st round pick this year

That’s fair. Wasn’t aware of his contract, even still, I want nothing to do with him… don’t need to kick those tires so more than fine with him not being the salary filler price. And still don’t want KCP like you mentioned.

That’s why I keep going back to Harris and Anthony since they’re pretty expendable pieces not playing but roles (or so it seems from afar)

I would also be fine with this, but the trade checker says this isn't enough to match salaries.

Add in Gary Harris' expiring and you're good.

This kid has the most effortless 3 EVER! Looks like a flick of the wrist, even from deep outside.

Have to say, Jett's got that kind of stroke too...not quite, but looks very promising

This trade wasn't some conspiracy - it was just a GM wanting AD bad enough where in most people's eyes he overpaid by a long shot to get him.

Then it’s a 3 for 1, Portland would likely add in Banton at that point since they don’t have the roster spots for a 3 for 1 deal. Truth be told, I’m not sure they have the spots for a 3 for 2 either.

He had a rough start to the year, but he’s mostly been solid since then. Few off games here or there like every player has, but more often than not dependable and fully worth his price tag.

Conceptually I agree with you. But: if the Magic is to bring in Simons, Caldwell-Pope needs to be traded. Either he is part of a three-team deal, or Portland, a team that would not see Caldwell-Pope as an asset, would "need more".
I agree that Orlando and Portland could/should call up a contender that needs a SG (Denver?) and work out something fair.

Anthony, Caldwell-Pope, and Denver's FRP for Simons and a Denver big (?DeAndre Jordan?) would be fine for Orlando.

p.s. you had me at "trade Anthony :) "

People haven’t been paying enough attention to Simons, what they saw last night was just normal Simons lol. I’m not saying he’s an All Star ( yet  ) but if you really want to be impressed look at his highlights this season and see just how DEEEEEEP his shot can extend out to.

I’m with you, he’s among a handful of really exceptional shooters - and has been for a relatively long time, despite his age. His defensive ratings would jump if surrounded by a more defensive-emphasis team like ORL…and, he’s capable of much more offensive variety than other elite, high-volume shooters like Kennard, Hield, etc. Those guys do nothing but shoot-Simons can go shot for shot with them AND get 5 assists, dribble in traffic and, if you close out, dunk on your Center.

He’s far from perfect - but would be perfect for us.
