These are the opinions of one lifelong Spurs fan, nothing more

He floats too far away from the basket a lot, and his strength still limits his ability ro create at the basket at will….

That said, he’s a quality floor spacer, and he’s probably the highest ceiling shot blocking talent along with being the easiest lob target of all time, while being a solid rebounder and switchable defender.

He has some things to patch up, but his strengths are like 1 of 1 level.

I had Shawn Bradley flashbacks tonight when Ja dunked on Wemby.

Tonight was an example of Gimmick Ball gone bad in the home loss to Memphis. 5/19 FGA with 3/10 3PA and 2/9 2PA. You have to know when it's not your night and not just look to shoot as soon as the ball touches your hands.

On the other hand, someone like Jay Huff is a great example for Wemby. Huff is at 41% from three this year as a center (3/5 tonight) and if Vic can get up around 40% then you really could have something.

Apologies, I get where you're going with your larger point.

but this post was way, way too funny not to quote for posterity.

Tough outing in the second Memphis game, on national tv.

Aldama was the best big in the game and he came off the bench.

Just read Wemby only has 4 FTA total in the last 5 games, come on man . As much as Wemby wants to be KD on offense, KD at 36-years old is averaging 6.5 FTA/Game, Wemby has no excuse to be at 4.0 FTA/G.

Wemby is who he is for now, I don't think it make sense to get too hot or cold about him. His streaky shooting will make him look amazing when his jumpshots are falling, and the opposite when they do not.

He has shown more than flashes of his gigantic potential during the regular season against mid teams.
The concerns if he currently has actual (offensive) impact against good (defensive) teams is valid and remains so until he proves otherwise in the playoffs.

What is surprising to me lately is that Spurs seem lacklustre on defence, probably not Wemby's fault, but with the odds-favourite of DPOY this year you think they'd be better.

he's the most talented prospect ever but if he doesn't embrace being a big man and use his height and length down low on offense, he'll never reach his massive potential. Hovering around the three point line and going ISO is playing into his opponent's hands. They're happy to let him dance and shoot long jumpers. It keeps them out of foul trouble, takes a rebounder out of the paint and increases the odds of him missing. I understand SA might be limiting his post game until he's much stronger and filled out but maybe they aren't and this is just how he prefers to play.

"Down low" is vague, but if you're talking about the low block, that isn't going to be a thing. Low block isolation enhances the problem of his high center of gravity and lack of power-post-worthy mass. And it evades his agility and shooting ability. And he'd be mostly playing for like 43-45% hook shots which don't draw fouls that well. It isn't ideal offense. He isn't a Shaq/Wilt type, and all of the guys other than those dudes wielded more face-up and perimeter options because they didn't have the build to just smash the low block.

Mid and high post play, on the other hand, are going to be bread and butter for him if he works on them, coupled to PnR/off-ball stuff, all of which he's already flashing.

You can tell the sort of game Wemby had by the posters that last posted in this thread.

Santi Aldama is a good role player who will get pay this off season.

However you need to back this dude in the basket and dunk on him.I know he is young and doesn't know any better but in the future you can't let the Santi Aldama's of the world cook you like that.

The Spurs are letting him figure it out but at some point you have to set some rules .

No Logo 3s and start to post up a bit more .

I think that Vic is starting to hit the wall physically and it looks like teams are starting to get a handle on how to approach him on both ends of the court.

This was inevitable. And he'll adapt to it and then the process will begin all over again with teams looking for another way to defend him and look for ways to manage him when the Spurs are on defense.

The Greatest of All Time debate in basketball is essentially who has the greatest basketball resume of the player who has the best highlights instead of who is the best player
