I feel bad for Mark Andrews. A key fumble late in the 4th that probably kept BAL from scoring, and then dropping that 2 pt play. How do you ever get over that? Not one but two crucial mistakes in such a big game. I hope he gets a lot of support after this.

Good decision, in retrospect, by BUF not to go for it on 4th and goal from the 2. You make the fg, the worst that can happen is a tie. Smart call.

Should be great championship games. I'm pulling for BUF and PHI. I think it's BUF"s year.

I really like him but I don’t think I can feel bad for him. That fumble. What was he doing? I don’t think I’ve ever seen him try to make a move like that and he try’s to make a play when one wasn’t needed. And then he just chokes it.

Yeah, I just can’t pull myself to feel bad for him. I just can’t get there.

I really wanted Carter that year, because I thought he was getting dinged over something unrelated to his likely performance on a team. Was there anything to the character issues outside of the tragic accident when he was drag racing?
To me, it's the type of thing that is likely life changing for him and not likely to occur again, nor is it related to his football work ethic or how he is with teammates.
FWIW, to my knowledge nothing meaningful has anything come up with him as a character issue in Philly either. A quick search on the topic has me finding a shop lifting incident that was a misunderstanding, some social media beef with a guy on another team, and him being late to a team meeting, which overall doesn't seem like a grand list of things I'd be concerned about for a pro bowl talent guy.
There’s this big narrative about team character being so important, and yet guys like Claypool, Davis, and Stevenson are continually brought in anyway. Yet, for some arbitrary reason, the buck stops with Carter. And that’s been an interesting part about the Poles tenure. The inconsistency. Spotty application of “character” standards. One minute you’ll be talking of building slowly the right way, the next you’ll be unnecessarily trading away draft picks for older guys and weird guys, and paying big money. Signing Nate Davis against all advice. At the end of the day, the team was bereft of football character, and it craters.
He should definitely be criticized for being a hypocrite for not following his own philosophy but I don’t think you can equate the Carter situation with the other guys. No one died with those guys (as far as I know) and if I remember right, there were reports, or at least a strong narrative, that Carter was an issue outside of the racing. Again. I would have taken him. Not very often you can trad from the one spot down and still get the best player in the draft. but it was a high risk high reward pick, and becuase of the circumstance of why he dropped, I won’t blame poles for that.
But whatever, people can obviously blame him for passing on him if they want. It doesn’t really matter. I didn’t expect it to turn into a major discussion

I think around the time of eberflus getting fired I was still very on board with keeping poles but that stance softened as the season went on. Now watching the commanders be who we were supposed to be makes me regret not being on the team of wanting him fired from the start.
If he doesn’t get Johnson he should be fired immediately. Hire a new gm and coach at the same time

If we were drafting #1, sure. Drafting at #9 where you have a talent that is potentially #1 worthy? No, you take that chance. There are a million things that can go wrong with a pick.
anderson was the clear #1 prospect regardless of position. carter and bryce were on the 2nd level, bijan and stroud on the 3rd
as i recall, his coaches wouldn't vouch for him either. was eberflus gonna keep this guy in line? pssh
Not shocking under the circumstances, but would be curious what they said behind closed doors, but he said this prior to the draft in March.“There’s been a lot of questions about Jalen, which probably was inevitable anyway,” Smart said when asked about NFL teams communicating with him on Carter. “When you start talking about, I got a lot of questions about Travon Walker when he came out. There’s a lot of questions generally, but with the situation, probably more questions and more direct. You just try to be honest and talk about the experiences we had with Jalen here. Jalen did not have to come back and play after his first injury, nor after his second injury. Both times he wanted to overcome that injury. He begged us to put him in in games he was hurt. The competitive character he’s shown I think has been really good. I also think his teammates really respect Jalen. Jalen earned the respect of his teammates. They love being around him. That’s a lot of things you can say about him.”
“Yeah, he’s a generational talent. He’s very talented,” Smart said. “I’ve been around coaching for 18 years and there’s very few guys I’ve coached that have the talent that he has.”
i guess he was always threatening to transfer if he didn't get his way. again, i'm not sure who on the bears is gonna keep that crap in check. does he try to walk all over eberflus? it's just completely understandable that poles wouldn't want that potential scenario in a rebuilding situation. hell, all it took to ruin this year's team was a fail mary. so you take the best offer. just as would be reasonable if he had no character questions and you had the #5 pick with him on the board
no team in the league other than maybe philly thought he was worth more than #10 plus a 4th. not sure why we would expect poles to value him more

Has anyone slightly soured on BJ after watching the last Lions game? I'm not saying he's garbage or anything, but that play with a double toss and then the WR throwing a INT was way too cute. Kinda reminded me of Nagy. It was such a crucial point in the game as well. Why would you have anyone other than the QB throwing a ball at that point? I just have questions now that I didn't really have before.
Would a more experienced guy like McCarthy be a better bet at this point? Kingsbury is looking better than before as well.

Outside of that one play, he called as good of a game as you can. Especially considering how many points Goff left on the field. His other two trick plays worked to perfection.

Who says Johnson is the best guy for the job? There are a lot of good candidates, and I think it will tough weighing the various factors and the plusses and minuses of each one.

To be fair, I turned on the game a couple of minutes before that trick play happened so maybe I'm the a$$
It just seemed so inappropriate at the moment.

I feel bad for him dropping that 2pt conversion but he botched that fumble by trying to do too much but ultimately Lamar 3 turnovers cost them this game

So you want a coach you will need to replace in 5 years if things go well? A coach who's last top 10 defense was 2016?

i've gotten annoyed at the very lazy strain of Ben Johnson Skepticism — obviously the nagy comparisons are silly at face value, since we all know nagy spent minimal time as a playcaller before joining the bears and got to oversee an offense andy reid designed.
but i was curious if there were any examples of Hotshot OC with a similar profile to johnson who ended up flaming out, so i did some research and found something interesting: as far as i'm aware, there hasn't been a single offensive coordinator who's been hired as a head coach in the past decade who has as strong a resume as he does (three years overseeing a top-5 scoring/yardage nfl offense as the primary offensive architect/playcaller)

Norv Turner is probably the GOAT. Had 3 seasons of top 10 offenses in Dallas and takes the Washington HC job and after 7 seasons wins just 45% of his games. Josh McDaniels leads three years of NE offenses in the top 10 in points scored takes the Denver job and is fired less then two seasons later. Todd Haley leads two top 10 offense for AZ, takes the KC job and is fired less then 3 seasons later.
