MIA/MIL/DAL/DET/TOR - Butler to Milwaukee

Post#1 » by islandboy53 » Mon Jan 20, 2025 9:41 pm

In any trade that Milwaukee makes for Butler (or Beal) they will need to send out enough salary to finish below the 2nd apron. They are currently $6.5 million over that apron. That means, for Butler, they need to send out at least $55.2 million. That is virtually impossible without using Brook Lopez and his $23 million. We know Dallas is shopping Gafford, presumably for wing defence, but maybe they would prefer using him to upgrade at centre. Because Dallas & Milwaukee have so few SRPs, Prosper & Jackson are the incentives to take on Kleber & Connaughton, respectively.

Miami out: J. Butler, K. Love,
Miami in: K. Middleton, D. Gafford, D. Mitchell, 31 Mil 1st
- Miami would likely prefer more expiring salary, but this should keep them competitive this year, while adding a 1st

Milwaukee out: K. Middleton, B. Lopez, P. Connaughton, A. Jackson, 31 1st
Milwaukee in: J. Butler, K. Love, W. Moore
- Milwaukee does what it must to acquire Butler, while generating a TPE, and room under the 2nd apron, which it can use
along with its remaining 2nd rounder to add something else

Dallas out: D. Gafford, M. Kleber, O. Prosper
Dallas in: B. Lopez
- Dallas upgrades at centre, while generating some salary flexibility for next year, additional room under the 1st apron for
another small move, and retaining all its draft capital

Detroit out: W. Moore
Detroit in: P. Connaughton, A. Jackson
- Detroit uses its cap space to take on Connaughton's $9 million next year in return for a prospect with some upside

Toronto out: D. Mitchell
Toronto in: M. Kleber, O. Prosper
- Toronto takes on Kleber's $11 million next year in return for a prospect with some upside

For Miami, I'm in. A bit afraid that Gafford would be wasted in Miami due to the emergence of Ware, but we could flip him pretty easily. I also like the idea of Mitchell in Miami as he has a defensive disposition.

Yeah the big stuff has been talked to death. I have nothing new.

But agree Toronto and Detroit pass. Kleber does nothing for a tanking Toronto and Prosper hasn't shown anything to justify taking on Kleber's money for next year.

It's super interesting for Dallas. Are they willing to let Lively/BroLo share the spot in the RS and then have Lively play 15-18 mpg only in the playoffs? Could they get BroLo to agree to a 2 year extension? I think I'd just do it and I'd stagger Luka/PJ as much as possible and Luka just becomes the backup PF defensively. And I might even try to steal some minutes with Lopez and Lively both on the court though I don't think Kidd would.

Toronto has Ochai/RJ/Mogbo/Gradey/Walter/Battle plus a high potential pick at their SF position I don't think they want to eat $11 million in dead money to get Omax whose shown very little so far. Cut Toronto out

Agree that Detroit passes. The upside isn't enough to take on that second year of Pat when we'll be trying to re-sign Beasley.
