Brown to Utah, Clarkson to PDX, RWIII to Raptors.....

Post#1 » by Bentley1225 » Mon Jan 20, 2025 10:51 pm

Ill offer this idea for
-Raptors get a pick, a rotational piece beyond this season Brown while saving some $
-Blazers clear up glut of 5s while getting a future 2nd
-Utah clears up more salary for off-season as they create more flexibility given multiple 2025 1sts they are due

To Utah (Trade Clarkson, Mykhaliuk, 2nds)
-Bruce Brown (1 year, $23 million)

To Portland (Trade Williams)
-Jordan Clarkson (2 years, $28.4 million)
-2030 Utah 2nd round pick

To Toronto (Trade Brown)
-Robert Williams III (2 years, $25.7 million)
-Svia Mykhaliuk (1 year, $3.5 million plus T.O.s)
-2029 Utah 2nd round pick

Why?
-The use distant 2nds to create further cap flexibility this summer as they lool to keep selling their cap space for 1sts or make a move in free agency
-The Blazers swap out excess big man while getting back a veteran PG/SG off bench who can provide more scoring as they get a disant 2nd for incremental money they take on
-Raptors deal Brown for a combo of slight salary reduction immediately, a rotational big to replace Boucher who is coming off books and s 2nd round pick

Why is Portland getting a big minutes guard while trying to develop Scoot and Sharpe? It also adds money and potentially hurts the tank. They need a follow up trade in place for this to make sense direction wise, even though value wise it is good.

Another tiny no defense guard, just what POR does not need.

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

if the Blazers are only getting a 2nd round pick 6 years from now, they would need, at minimum, an expiring contract. Clarkson has higher salaries that Williams. And I don't think that would be enough

A rare deal for a Portland vet that I'll turn down. Flip Clarkson for more picks (seconds are fine) and maybe this has legs.

If that deal were available, I think Utah would have done it already (another reason for Portland to decline).

I'm passing on this deal for the Raps. Timelord's knees have clocked out and he'd be killing cap space that can better be allocated somewhere else. In particular towards younger players. I'd need some extra draft capital at least to consider it because the pros of RW III are outweighed by his cons and it sucks as I like the guy.

Damn I had no idea Svi was still in the league. His time with the Raps was brutal. I have PTSD of him and Achuiwa blowing a 2 on 1 fast break.

The Jazz shouldn't be spending assets to move anyone at this point.

Agree with consensus. Not worth it for Jazz or Blazers. Raptors ... maybe? But it feels weird directionally.

As others have said, this just doesn't work for Portland. They do not want to add salary for the outgoing vets.

3 teams looking to tank are not going to trade vets with one another.

Context is important.

A) The Jazz are in a much better position than Raps and Blazers in terms of pool of assets and cap flexibility. They leverage remaining 2nds to buy more cap flexibility for off-season given they have 3 incoming 1sts as 1 of them can replace Clarkson as an option.
B) The Blazers have 4 guys to play the 5 and dont currently have a back up point guard guard to play behind Scoot for next season.
C) The Raps are looking for some sort of intangible asset for Brown to complete the Siakam trade. This gives Raps ability to deal Boucher for an expiring and a 2nd as well (ie. Tucker and a 2nd) in acquiring RWIII.

Regardless of all 3 teams being non-playoff teams, this was justification which has nothing to do with the perception of tanking.
