Warriors Expected To Evaluate Options Up To Trade Deadline

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Jan 21, 2025 1:47 pm

The Golden State Warriors don't feel pressure to make a trade ahead of the trade deadline. And Warriors leaders Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Steve Kerr have urged the team not to make a panic move that will hurt the future. But that doesn't mean Golden State is giving up on the season either.

"What you're really trying to do is see if you can make some moves at the margins that can help your current team," Kerr told ESPN. "We are going to do everything we can to be as competitive as possible, to put the best team around Steph as possible without mortgaging the future, and that is the right decision."

The Warriors are expected to continue to evaluate their roster until the February 6 trade deadline is closer. Golden State could look to add players like veteran center Nikola Vucevic, who the team has been linked to for weeks. Or Mike Dunleavey Jr. could work a deal to get out of the luxury tax, if the team continues to slide in the standings. All options are on the table for the Warriors in the next two weeks.

Curry said as long as Dunleavy is trying to improve the team, that's enough for him.

"(We're) trying to be a realistic threat in a playoffs series," Curry said. "If Mike calls and says, 'Hey, this is an opportunity to do X, Y, Z,' I give my opinion.

"My hope is that (if there's no action at the deadline), it's not because of a lack of effort. If we don't have a chance to get better, my whole thing is I want to win, and whatever that means, all efforts are pointed towards that, then I can kind of live with whatever happens."

I hate when GM's say mortage the future. They are paid to win not wait 3 or 5 wins to win. There is only one timeline for the Warriors, the Steph Curry timeline...they should be going all in for his last few years.

They still dont get it and continue with the double timeline BS.

It's mind blowing at this point.

You have Steph fricking Curry on your roster, what are you waiting for? A team built around Kuminga is winning 45 games for the next decade.

If you're only looking to make moves along the margins then what's the point. We need a trade for Zion where it's either boom or bust. Or sell Wiggins and Dray at the deadline. Any other move where you don't trade a 1st or don't include young players for a real difference maker is just straddling the middle. Choose a **** direction!

A .500 record half way through season is worst case scenario for this franchise. They need to suck it up a pick a direction now. Steph is almost 37 and the team either needs to double down for this season and next or begin rebuild process sooner than later.

They're reporting on the conversation with the Warriors, that's a perfectly suitable summary headline. It doesn't imply that any other team is not expected to also do that- it just means that this article is about the Warriors' situation specifically. If the article was just the headline, of course your point would be a good one. But there's content in the article. Not everything has to be blockbuster.
