DAL-SAC-POR (Kleber/Thybulle/Huerter)

Post#1 » by babyjax13 » Tue Jan 21, 2025 8:32 am

DAL trades: Maxi Kleber
in: Matisse Thybulle
Dallas swaps Kleber for a perimeter defender.

SAC trades: Kevin Huerter
in: Maxi Kleber
Sacramento generates some cap space and adds a 4/5 who can provide some bench defense and floor spacing.

POR trades: Matisse Thybulle
in: Kevin Huerter
Portland gets some additional floor spacing next to Scoot to hopefully keep him on the trajectory he has been for the last few games. It's a low-risk trade for them considering they expire at the same time and Thybulle hasn't played for them this season. Duop Reath can probably be added if they'd like to have the money be even.

Can't see why the Mavs would do this. I know Maxi hasn't been playing quite as much, and hasn't been as good as previous to say the least, but if Gafford goes out as he is on the block, then he gets his chance and the team/franchise has familiarity with him.

I do this as the Kings as Maxi is the type of guy they need and I don't see too much wrong with the Blazers portion.

Portland is only 3.7 mil under the tax according to Spotrac. This is 11 for 16.8..

I’m not sure if they can duck it by sending out Reath and running 14 man? Finger math looks close enough to not make it impossible? Or if they have a Timelord lr etc trade lined up which keeps the under the tax. Not sure.

I do think Dallas likes Thybulle obviously and the offer is probably good value? But it’s hard to trade for someone that hasn’t played this season. Would prefer to wait, even if that means Portland gets better offers..

What ive heard gafford isnt "on the block" on the block, but would be involved if they can get herb jones. While mavs were intrestwd in thybulle, I am not sure how intrested they are now when grimes and those plays great. Personally I would still do it as mavs, but they need to somehow get a playable 4 to back up PJ after this, but not involve rotation pieces. Basicly have morris powrll and hardy, and dont think the lockerroom want to lose first 2

Huerter is shooting 30% from 3 and is a shooting guard... no thanks to paying more money for a less tradable player for 30% spacing

Pass for POR.

Looking for picks/youth, not an expensive backup.

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

As much as I hate Huerter, this is probably a no for me. I'd rather see Isaac Jones get minutes over Maxi, just DNP huerter, move Jones into the lineup and wait until Huerter becomes an expiring in 4 months.. I know Chuck doesn't want to hear any Kleber slander on here lol, but the days of him being a real rotation player feel a few years behind us. And the reality is that the Kings are going to need Huerters contract to attach to picks to go out and get a real player. Kleber makes 11 million, so saves Vivek money but ties Monte's hands in future trades.

24/25 Kleber is not the answer to anyones problems unfortunately, but he had a great career and can still function as a spot minute kind of a player who won't kill you defensively.

No reason for Portland to spend more money and take away minutes from the guys that share the positions with Huerter. Pretty easy pass without compensation.

Slander away, my friend. Criticism of him isn't slander anyway. I know his offense is brutal and unless you watch every night its hard to see everything he does defensively. He doesn't provide the secondary rim protection in ways he once did.

I do feel its pertinent that Maxi is playing 19 mpg for a team around the same level as the Kings this year and he played 17 mpg in the playoffs for a Finals team.

So he's currently very much a rotation player in Dallas anyway. He certainly wouldn't be one for every team, maybe not even the Kings. And I've been open I want Dallas to upgrade either he or Gafford if they can.

I'm not saying he can't be an end of the bench guy, but just like the Kings with Alex Len, that's probably the spot you want to upgrade rather than trading for that player. Hopefully that makes sense?

All I meant is if we are trading for a player to help us, that seems like a minor upgrade at best. He would fight with Alex Len who we currently want to upgrade. Fringe rotation spot. I'm in favor of spending some real assets to actually get an upgrade we could use, or turning that spot over to the young Isaac Jones who can grow into that player.

I don’t disagree with you Chuck but my feeling is pretty much the same as LTB.

Maxi fits very well on the Mavs as what he is because you have so much firepower healthy between even just Kurie and Luka that you can afford a specialist who is a zero when it comes to perimeter offense.

We really cannot do that though. Even as down as Huerter is, he is still a threat from the perimeter. While we do have a hole in the size/spacing at PF, we cannot afford for that guy to be an offensive zero.

In the end, we need Huerter’s salary to make the move we dinner so while this is tempting, I’d have to say no.
