KCP has only been an efficient player on a team like Denver where he is the 4th/5th option on offense AND you have Nikola Jokic kicking to him out of the post. COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SYSTEM. How do people not get this? It's the biggest way to out yourself as a casual.

KCP was scoring pretty efficiently (especially from 3, he shot 39%) for the Wizards too in 2021/22 who were a 35 wins team with their stars missing most of the season and didn't have any particularly good playmakers. Of course it's easier when you play with LeBron or Jokic, but it's not like he has been mostly taking tough shots for us and this has tanked his percentage. He is shooting the same amount of wide open 3s as last year, but he is shooting them much worse. He is shooting 26% on corner 3s which is by far the worst number of his career, even in his early days for Detroit on a tanking team when he shot poorly overall from 3 he was much better from the corners.

Yeah, its almost like he isn't getting good looks because the offense is predictable and nobody is able to get him open for better shots. His numbers will go up when Franz and Paolo returns. The problem is that there is still no point guard in the starting lineup at his expense and he isnt better or younger than Suggs.

If i remember correctly.... the magic is... or is one of the top teams in generated open 3 pointers. We are for some reason.... just....not.... making.... ish! lol

what that reason is.... i have no clue.

And let's not act as though it hasn't worked even with the shooting woes.... as Suggs and KCP have stunted offenses with their perimeter defense. So.... don't start calling people "a casual".... just because you decided to try and jump on your high horse and act as though you know everything.

lol... Sorry Berg for hijacking your response.

I like that you took a throwaway sentence out of a 6 paragraph response as the main takeaway instead of responding to anything.

My tv provider has sport's channel that is from Serbia and covers NBA, so naturally, they cover s*** loud of Nuggets games as Jokić is their (second?) most popular athlete.
Because of that i had a chance to watch at least 50 Nuggets games in past 3 years and one thing i can say for sure- looks KCP got there and what he has on Magic are NOTHING alike.
On top of that, KCP was involved in so much handoffs, cuts, because of 5 out system.

He had so many shots where closest defender wasn't 20 feet away from him because Jokić is THAT good and Nuggets had ability to swing ball fast enough to find him.

This is one of his three point looks vs Suns in playoffs

Image

But if you want to see from "neutral " opinoin why Nuggets offense was so amazing, enjoy this video

You will also notice that in solid of the clips showed KCP isn't even in game, sometimes it's Brown (not Braun, but Bruce Brown) , sometimes it's KCP, sometimes it's freaking Jeff Green and Brown. Non of those guys are good shooters. But when you stack them with one of best passers in modern era, who provides such gravity, playing 5 out, it really doesn't matter. Every player has open driving lines to attack rim because Jokić defender(s) sleep on perimeter with him, in fear of his 3 point bombs and high pick&roll. In give and goes just about any rotation player can look solid next to Jokić. I mean, he is doing this with 36 years old Westbrook and it works. Braun looks great and he is very conservative 3 point shooter.

In whole bunch of sets KCP would stay around paint to tie in one guy and prevent triple teams.

KCP isn't bad player, but getting him as "missing peace" feels like getting Mario Chalmers from Heat repeat and thinking you got something amazing. Guy averaged 10,6 ppg in playoffs on championship roster. He was their 6th offensive option.
During regular season of championship run, Bones Hyland averaged more ppg than KCP and KCP was 7th offensive option. Seventh.

I don't think he was viewed as a missing piece. The criteria guiding their search was publicly stated. They were looking for:

1. A veteran mentor
2. Championship pedigree
3. Someone that wouldn't detract from player development

He ticks all three boxes. He isn't taking reps away from Paolo, Franz, and Suggs, and he's a vet with championship experience.

This front office hasn't shown any real inclination towards optimizing a build around our core. They're clearly in player development mode, though I suspect this is the last season. For KCP to be considered a missing piece we'd have to have almost wrapped up putting the puzzle together. I think we've barely started.

AB is like Paolo?

gives me the douche chills...like how Bol Bol was kind of like Porzingis

Paolo backs people down and shoots midrange jumpers. Has AB ever done that or is it strictly a reference to AB's alleged ability to get to the line?

strictly his ability to get into the paint and to the line. he is physically overwhelming for pg and shooting guard defenders as he drives to the basket and absorb contact. he's been going to the line 5 times on average during his recent stretch which is pretty darn good for someone that is not a main offensive option. tis all i was saying.

It's a great thing. he looks like a different type of player when he pushes the ball and gets in the lane. add positive regression on his 3's and we've got something. I don't expect him to be near 40% on low volume like last year... nor sub 30% on high volume this year. league average would be awesome. package that with his court vision that is still improving and his defense.... he will be a great backourtmate in the future.

My further vision is pairing him with a complementary backcourt guy - while he's developing. Could quickly turn our bench unit from a zero to heroes and bring out the best in both.

i've said it before... i'm totally down to do a sexton for cole, harris, and a pick. i know some people don't see howard as a player during his "rookie" struggles.... but i'd like to see where this goes. I think he is much more than a shooter... and like cole... he puts the effort on the defensive end and i can see him being a great option at the 2 off the bench. The one player i'm 100 % ok parting with is Houstan ... we've tried and he's been a one trick pony.... with a weak trick as of now. his defense is getting better.... well... he tries and is making less mistakes than the previous years.

Nah, answer the question. You’ve got strong opinions on AB, I’m curious how much of it is informed by actually watching him play.

I pay $20 per month to that s**tstain that took over Bally (FanDuel?) ONLY to watch games. So, yes...now tell me what I'm missing in AB's overwhelming offensive skillset.

Someone else had to tell you that he was getting to the line more frequently, so you missed that. The variety of shots he is taking is also starting to resemble some of Paolo’s spots, like the back down baseline pull up, the FT line hesi and rip through or turnaround jumper.

This isn’t to say AB is Paolo as a scorer which should be obvious. But the spots and manner in which he’s starting to get it done shares resemblance to the big man. AB doesn’t have the speed to be a twitchy PG, but he has the size to play bully ball like Paolo.

I agree that he's tall and not really fast
