Curious about board consensus.
Seems DAL might look at less costly options to carry them until his return.

If this was only Lively injured, then Maxi + 2nd for PJT and PJT + PHI 2nd for RW, but it isn't just Lively, Mavs will keep their tanking option open.

Disagree Dallas will tank. But trading Maxi for Williams is mostly lateral on the court but on this board the expectations will be Dallas pays a first to swap them. And that would be really dumb considering how unreliable Williams is healthwise.

I don’t think a team struggling with injuries should shell out one of few good assets for an injury prone guy.

Think Dallas should see how the next 6-8 games go and get an update on the other important injured player before this..
But if Dallas is getting aggressive, I think the assets (and matching salary) should be used to upgrade the wings not getting a replacement center when they already have a bandaid center in Gafford..

Agree. With the caveat that I think a center comes cheaper than a wing. And I already thought the team needed another big. If they can make Herb Jones dreams come true(and the Pels seem very uninterested in cooperating ) lets do that. If you can make something around the margins that addresses the bigs, I'm still for it.

Herb Jones is out for the year or a long time with labrum injury?

Assuming he will be back some time next year, I'd still trade for him right now. But to your larger point, its not happening.

Dallas is 4-10 in the last 14 including lossed to Pelicans and Hornets, barely beat Thunder w/o SGA, Chet and IHart.
This is a terrible.team and Luka has calf injury and Kyrie has back issues, tanking is very much a high probability option.

Where you and I disagree is not with how bad this team is with all the guys out. They are bad. But I believe they just need to get into the 16 man tournament and I think they can still make noise. Luka is that special and proven of a playoff performer and they have good fitting pieces around him.
I'm not anxious to get pick 11 instead of giving Luka a chance to playoff cook. That might be a bad call by me, but its where I am. We don't have infinite Luka seasons left. I don't like giving up on any of them until I have to.

This has all the makings of Dallas ending up at 7 or 8 seed and blowing up the playoff bracket

Idk how many 2nds Dallas has but Maxi + 2nds for Rob seems fair. Rob has still only played 15 games this season so a 1st is out of the question. Maxi has the same contract length and POR even saves a couple million

Yeah I mean i feel like if anything the move is to get a Simons/Sexton/Coby White type who can keep the offense afloat until Luka/Kyrie come back and then transition to a 6th man role

They essentially have the Philly 2nd this year and maybe one more? But I'd have no interest even that cheaply. Williams is going to miss games and neither he nor Gafford hold any real trade value this summer when you'd have to move one. Team now has no backup 4 nor any centers who space the floor at all(not that Kleber takes/makes shots, but he does play outside, Williams can't).
If Dallas knew they were getting a Williams who would play 80% of remaining games and could play half the game then sure. He's show impact higher than Maxi and you just figure out the new hole. But we haven't seen that guy in years and I don't see Dallas being the team to pay anything to find out.
OKC should invest some of their young players they have no room for in him. Perfect break in case of emergency guy they won't need when their bigs are back. They can afford luxuries like this, hoping to hit.

I'm not anxious on tanking, but I also prefer to be realistic.
Luke has a soft tissue injury and recovery timeline varies, Kyrie has a back problem, all it takes is to err on the safe side in terms of recoveryband the season may be lost.
There is no upside to tanking unlike 22/23, but it may be a necissity.

You traded OMP and had him on the depth chart....
I also don't think Reath is worth that pick. Problem is Dallas doesn't have the right value piece to send. So I'd pass.

POR is high on Reath so while I agree with Chuck on value, that isn’t likely to fly.
And I also agree with Chicknin regards to play and get in and see if you can hit on health and luck.
In the end, that’s generally what it boils down to once you are in with the talent to take it home.

IMO POR is NOT high on Reath, he rarely plays and besides hitting some 3's in the definition of "meh"
