This has Nagy pt. 2 written all over it.
I can understand skepticism because the Bears don't have anything like the Lions OL. But this seems to completely ignore the sustained success that the Lions had under Johnson. It's a lot more than trick plays, he's consistently run the ball (and well), and from what I've heard from his players, they've felt consistently put in position to be successful, including use of things that simplify the game for the QB - play action, etc. All of those bode well.
It also bodes well that he fixed on the Bears so quickly given he was basically the hottest name out there with many options including it seemed to go to LA with his choice of GM. That gives some credence to the Bears as having a solid base of talent and that he at least believed in management to provide needed assets and that he believes in Poles (and/or has enough input to make him comfortable).
He could be wrong, they could be wrong, it could all blow up, he might not be able to transition up a seat. But there's a lot of positives that seem to be overlooked in this critique.
