So Stephen Jones will take after his father, meddle in football decisions?

Didn't Jerry at least give some autonomy to Johnson and then Parcells before deciding that he didn't like them getting credit for the team doing well so he was going to make himself GM/POFO or the final say on all football matters?

Of course all owners have the final say, since they write the checks. But most of them will pay a lot to a GM and to a President and not deal with it.

Of course the owner of the Giants let his GM talk him into letting Saquon walk and then saw him sign with the Eagles of all teams.

Maybe "football professionals" are overrated.

Stephen Jones will be the face of the franchise once Jerry is gone. The entire Jones family though (well at least all of Jerry’s kids) will likely have equal ownership. Charlotte and Jerry Jr won’t be the front man like Stephen but they will take a big say in how the team is run I’m sure. After they are gone Jerry has a couple of grandkids that will likely then take over.

As for Jimmy and Parcells. Jimmy had full control of the team and was in charge of all things football. Jerry was building a brand though and the two things didn’t always go hand in had. Jimmy was ready to leave Dallas and Jerry helped him out the door.

When Parcells was hired Jerry need Bill and Bill needed Jerry. The Cowboys were coming off 3 straight 5-11 seasons and Jerry needed a new stadium. Hiring Bill is the only way the fans were going to vote for a new stadium. Bill was coming off of a divorce where he got reemed in court. He needed the money. Bill was in control of all things football and Jerry let him have his way until T.O. became available. Bill did not want TO and Jerry wanted the circus. Again, Jerry’s team so he wins.

I’d rather have Flores tbh.

He's a former Jets player. So, it's an easy sell to fans. But yeah, it's a very Jets type move.

Flores has been a better DC. But his reputation as a HC makes it too much of a gamble for teams.

It just seems like the lions never even had a very good defense. And I know that’s not all on the DC and maybe he’s a Mike Tomlin. type but I can tell you - there is only one Mike tomlin.

The kids would command more respect if they worked their way up a bit, learned the business instead of being handed the highest positions right away.

For instance, if Stephen started almost at entry level in the front office out of college, learned some different roles for a couple of years.

He was always going to be one of the heirs for running the team but at least learned the business before he took on big decision-making roles.

I don't know if that's the way it happened or Jerry just made him GM or president right off the bat.

There's only one place Saleh would accept a coordinator position.

And put ourselves behind in the GM search too

God this team is stupid. Watch, I guarantee the guy who's interim GM is just gonna become the GM because Shad's too lazy to actually clean house.

At least he’s FINALLY gone, man. Take solace in that.

This move pretty much confirms the idea that they planned on keeping McCarthy & the staff intact. But only on their own terms ($$). Jerry likely wanted to give McCarthy a one or two-year extension, but Mike walked away instead.

Hiring Schotty means you want to keep some form of continuity.

“Continuity” = 7-10

Cowboy fans are going to hate this move. But I don't think it's a terrible hire. Are there better candidates available? Probably. But there aren't a ton of great options currently the way I see it.

The biggest misstep they made was not cleaning house last year. Because you had a much better pool of candidates who we're available. Bigger names like Belichick, Harbaugh, etc.

If Dak stayed healthy this was probably a 9- or 10-win team. No?

Either way, it's still a decent roster. You just need to convince Jerry or Stephen to spend a little money in free agency to fill out the roster.

They won’t and the team cap expert will use a lack of cap space (a mess he is directly responsible for) as an excuse for not doing so.

This feels like the last few years of Al Davis running the Raiders. The Hue Jackson/Brad Gradkowski Raiders. Jerry has gone even more completely wheels off.
