Jaden Springer coming out party
Thank you Joe for doing what's best for the team and giving Springer a chance. I knew this kid could play. He has ALL NBA defensive potential and we just saw a glimpse of that tonight. I have no doubt that if Springer would have been brought in to contain SGA we would have won that Thunder game. He completely SHUT DOWN Kevin Porter Jr after he was COOKING everybody. He flat out won this game against the Clippers. He MUST be in the rotation going forward.

Re: Jaden Springer coming out party
This is what I expected Springer could bring to the team this season...
Maybe not even to play every game but whenever there is a guard going off on the other team you put Springer in...
Hopefully he gets his chance going forward.
It is possible he gets traded by the deadline and if we won`t use him it makes sense, since he is making 4 mio. But I think he can help this team like he showed tonight.
He isn`t a guy who will lead the second unit, you put him in with the main guys where he can play his role and be a defensive piranha…

Yep, all of this.
He may very well be traded, and maybe even showcased a bit in a game missing regulars for both teams that's all fine.
It was great to see him do his thing with JT and some starters on the floor with him. It allowed Jaden to play the Glove role.
The clamps on defense was as advertised but to me the big news is that Joe stuck with him after that airball 3, and Jaden stayed confident, went to corner and hit two huge 3's, even showing a bit of swag while doing it. He wanted to show what he can do and he stepped up in the moment.
If Springer can continue to fit in with the offense, the minutes are possibly there. I think he's a nice compliment to Pritchard. Not the scorer of course, but someone Joe can play with Pritchard or alternate them in on offense and defense when a stop is needed. Last night we saw a bit of that and Springer filled that Stay Ready role for the team when it was most needed.

It does make me wonder what was stopping him from getting a shot like this earlier in our lackluster winter.

He exposed the rest of the team as being unmotivated and lackadaisical. Hopefully this performance by Springer will light a fire under everybody else's asses.

this team definitely needs a feel good story right now. I watched Jaden's post game interview with Abby and he said all the right things. I hope he gets some PT tonight too.

Re: Jaden Springer coming out party
Admittedly, I haven't watched last nights game yet, but in his short previous stints he's been a guy who I worry will get a short whistle because he doesn't have the reputation and respect from the refs yet. Super small sample size, but were they letting him play last night or was he doing a good job of not fouling? He's the kind of defender that would drive us crazy if he were on the other team and have us saying that's a foul every possession. I'll form my own opinion later when I watch the game, but wondering what everyone else thought first...

Re: Jaden Springer coming out party
I have been calling him trash all season, and I didn't watch last night, but I'm here for my medicine. I'm glad he showed out for a night. Best case, he contributes down the stretch in games like this at least a few more times this season. Second best case, the cost to unload him goes from 2 2nds to just 1 2nd. Worst case, he quickly returns to looking like a guy who wouldn't even trash my men's league team.
But kudos to him for staying ready, making an impact, and saying all the right things afterwards. Sounds like his teammates got a boost from him, and that's what teams need in the dog days like this.

Any time we play a team like the Clippers missing 4 starters we should let him play.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Re: Jaden Springer coming out party
Just saw this thread. I have some mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I am very happy for Springer. Who isn't? But it makes me wonder, what If?? What if Joe would have used Springer and/or Walsh and/or Queta much more??? What If Joe didn't go into short rotations since Nov/Dec?? Would we perhaps have that much needed energy and well Fueled team right now? Is Joe not capable of implementing more players at one time?? Would that make his head spin too much??
We can all wonder and imagine what may have been. It is all unproveable theories at this time. But my Gut says Joe missed a REAL opportunity to do better, far better for both the young players and the TEAM overall.

If Springer, Walsh, and Queta all get more playing time, that means less playing time for some of the starters.
Less playing time means their stats will go down.
They will never admit it in public, but the star players on this Celtics team care about making an All-NBA team, becoming an All-Star, being part of 1st team or 2nd team All-Defense, etc.

Looks like good defense to me. Aggressive, without fouling:
It can be a fine line. Between playing really aggressive defense out on the perimeter, really pressuring the ball handler but not fouling or playing so aggressive that your blows by you off the dribble. There have been quite a few times (in preseason and during reg season this year) where his aggressive defense has resulted in fouls or getting beat off the dribble.
But to be fair:
a) Those types of issues are of course going to be more common if a guy is getting barely any playing time, is not getting the necessary reps to develop correctly, only plays during garbage time once every 7 or games
b) Those types of issues are also more common for young players age 22 and under. Remember Nesmith? He was like 21 when he was here. And often would play too aggressive, too wild and would foul jump shooters. Hell, Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown would s till make bonehead plays sometimes at age 27! But those guys would also get so much more playing time that they get more of a chance out there, so we not only see the mistakes but we see lots of good plays from them too. But if a guy only plays 2 mins of garbage time once a month, if he makes a mistake, we remember that play way more and he's not getting as much playing time so not as much chance to make good plays that can outweigh those 1 or 2 mistakes he made in 2 mins of garbage time
But if you develop a guy, give him the necessary reps to get better..give him more consistent mins - that's how he finds that balance more between playing aggressive D without fouling or getting beat off the dribble. And that's how his shooting can improve.
When Springer was getting consistent rotation mins in Philly before we traded for him, he was finding that balance well. He was locking guys up - guys like Steph, SGA, Brunson, Luka, etc.

As expected, Joe called the cops on that party and the party ended.

I’m for more Jaden Springer, Neemias Queta, Jordan Walsh, and Baylor Scheierman minutes. My model is the 2014 who played a situational rotation of 11 guys depending on many factors. No reason to play only 8 guys big minutes on a title team!

The three players you mentioned have all shown that they can inject needed energy into a game, and I've seen more than one game where we could have used some energy. When the starters aren't playing so well, and the other team is rolling, why not send in Springer, Queta, and Walsh? Tell them you are counting on them to change things up, and see what they can do. If they aren't effective, what have you lost? The starters weren't doing it either. They could also turn things around, but not if they are glued to the bench watching Tatum fiddling and diddling at the three point line, eating up the clock, then bricking a shot or driving into a crowd and getting stripped of the ball. More PT for them will build their confidence, and provide our starters with needed rest. Seems like that would be a good thing.
