That Dallas/Phoenix deal if there’s no Beal deal.

Post#1 » by jayjaysee » Thu Jan 23, 2025 9:22 pm

This one is more if the Vegas guys don’t want to pay Grimes or maybe if they like Grayson as much as some here?

Dallas: Grimes, Gafford, Exum, cash, 2025 Philly 2nd
Dallas: Richards, Allen, 2027 Cleveland first

Dallas upgrades an early 2nd into a late first by downgrading on the court. Richards can still be a fine backup for Lively. Allen is a good fitting 3rd guard. No idea what the plan is for the 2027 first, but it would be nice to have some asset? Maybe the team tanks, maybe it doesn’t.

Phoenix: Richards, Allen, 2025 Denver 2nd, 2027 Cleveland/Minn/Utah first
Phoenix: Gafford, Grimes, 2025 Philly 2nd

If you’re wondering if this is a part 2 to the Chicago deal, yes… But could be independent if you like this and hate that… Phoenix gets a younger guard to pair with Booker while upgrading their center rotation? Feel like they owe small value in both swaps, so trying to get Dallas a late first since they have nothing else to add? Two legal independent trades though.

Washington: top 55 protected 2nd
Washington: Exum, cash, 2025 Denver 2nd

Washington gets a bad 2nd and some cash for buying someone out. If I found a team with an open roster spot, probably do not need the Denver 2nd? But lazy.

I think Allen = Gafford in value (really late 1st), and Richards = Grimes in value (2 seconds) so Phoenix dont owe much if any in that swap. Maybe a 2025 CLE 1st and 2025 PHI 2nd swap at most.

I think Dallas likely asks for at least “a second” in both of those deals? Especially the Richards/Grimes swap. Richards puts up nice stat sheets though so maybe that matters.

I would have it Allen slightly more valuable than Gafford and Grimes slightly more valuable than Richards, but basically reach the same conclusion as godaddycurse, the Suns don't owe the first. Of course I don't think Dallas would make the swap without some incentive because for them specifically Gafford fills a bigger need than Allen.

But if you could turn Klay into Rui or some such, then it gets more interesting for me. And play Allen starters minutes.

Not the time to downgrade at center for the Mavs, it's all still up in the air and they need to see where they stand before pickinh a direction.
P.S. I'm not really worried about Grimes leaving he has shown enough to warrant re-signing, buy hasn't shown enoug to be worried if he leaves.
