I watched some of the Iowa Wolves game tonight to see Dillingham in action. I was surprised at just how depleted the Iowa roster is right now. It was a big change from earlier in the year when Nix, Clark, and Miller were playing every game. Rob did OK but was by no means too good for the G-League (scored 22 on 23 shot attempts while committing 6 TOs). I'll be curious to see if Rob gets another game or two in Iowa to try to get a better rhythm for his offensive game.

He gets a pass for his first game in weeks and with a terrible Iowa team. Now 1-7 after tonight in the regular season.

Looks like we start training players to commit reckless turnovers early in their career :D

Newton had an interesting game tonight. He scored 18 on 4-17 shooting. But he had 10 boards, 14 assists, 2 steals, 1 block, and only 3 TOs. He was a -15 but that stat is less relevant in the G with only Edwards as the other part time Wolf.

Speaking of Edwards he shot 12 of 17, he had 26/10/2 with 3 stocks. He was a +3.

Newton scored 32 on 26 shots, he had a double, double with points and turnovers. This box score is… something.

Canis has a nice piece up about the Iowa Wolves players. I think this guy is really intriguing:

Babacar Sané
Regular season:

5 GP | 23.6 MP | 13.6 PTS | 4.8 REB | 0.4 AST | 0.4 STL | 0.6 BLK | 1.6 TOV | 2.4 PF
46.4 FG% | 23.5 3P% | 70.0 FT%

At just 21 years of age, Babacar Sané has the size (6’8” height; 230 lbs; 7’3” wingspan) and explosive athleticism that’s hard to ignore.

;ab_channel=NBAGLeague

The Sengalese forward is a walking highlight reel. He goes after every block and every dunk opportunity, for better or worse. Iowa recently traded one of their rotation players, Jaedon LeDee, for Sane and after just two games, he’s been promoted to their starting lineup. He was one of the main reasons the Wolves won their first game of the season without one of the Timberwolves rostered players.

He’s the definition of a raw talent though. The jump shot is far from consistent. The decision-making still has a long way to go, as he often goes screaming towards the rim with reckless abandon. That said, Sane’s only turned 21 years old five months ago and he’s already in his third G League season after spending the first two with the now defunct G League Ignite.

Sané has a ton of potential and has an interesting story. From an early age, he was on the NBA’s radar in Africa and is just such an easy young man to root for.

Amari Bailey started his 2nd game in a row for the Iowa Wolves (6-26). The Wolves are 2-0 in these games.

Yesterday, he showed off his playmaking chops. The 21 y/o put up an 11-point, 15-assist double double.

I'm Intrigued.

To properly develop Joan Beringer, TC must do three critical things:

1. Find a real 3rd-string point guard who knows how to run an offense

This is 80% of the battle when developing a young big. You can’t draft someone like Beringer and pair him with chaotic combo guards (e.g. Nix, Hyland), or limit him to scraps of time with Dillingham. He needs real reps:
- as a rim runner
- as a DHO hub
- as a short-roll passer
- as a finisher around the rim

You need a point guard who:
- Controls the pace
- Takes care of the ball
- Hits Beringer every single time he’s open

My perfect UDFA target for this role is Ryan Nembhard — a pure floor general who checks every box.

2. Surround Beringer with high-IQ, knockdown shooters

He needs spacing to grow. And not just shooters — smart, read-and-react players who know how to cut, relocate, and make the extra pass. My ideal pick: Tyrese Proctor.

3. Add versatile secondary playmakers

Think of a young Kyle Anderson-type — long, smart, can bring the ball up and operate out of inverted pick-and-rolls. My top candidate: Kobe Sanders.

Bonus thought: If (and it’s a big if) TC keeps pick #31 and selects Fleming, this third unit suddenly becomes extremely fun: Beringer–Fleming–Sanders–Proctor-Nembhard. That group could dominate the G-League. Although realistically, Sanders, Proctor, and Nembhard may all go in the 40s — but if one of them slips? Huge opportunity.

Brea, Kam, and Proctor will get drafted by someone.

Absolutely would be thrilled to sign Nembhard or Sears if they dont get drafted.

After the NAW trade, our front office really needs to find two new two-way players.

I really hope one of them is a point guard who can run pick-and-roll with Beringer/Zikarsky, and the other is a high-volume shooter who can stretch the floor, facilitate, and use screens effectively.

In other words, whenever Beringer or Zikarsky is on the floor, they should be able to replicate the main Wolves offensive and defensive concepts as closely as possible:

- Defense built around a rim protector who can also switch onto the perimeter
- Lots of threes to maintain spacing and punish help
- Emulate empty-side pick-and-rolls like Gobert–Conley actions
- Emulate MIN’s high 3PA offense using on-ball and off-ball screens like Gobert–Edwards/DDV combos

Isnt it likely that CJ Fulton is the plan?

I think "the plan" is stretching it. A plan, perhaps, but he seems from a distance like your typical summer league player. But maybe they'll see something I haven't yet. Perhaps they think they've uncovered the next TJ McConnell. Connelly did technically allude to him in his post-draft press scrum, so I guess he's not a total nobody.
