I've been talking up Jokic for MVPs on here since at least 2020 but I just want to point out that part of Shai's argument over him is barely part of box score metrics which is defense. Jokic is probably an average defender at his position while Shai is a very good one and is also part of a historic defense this year. I think you can make good arguments for either guy but obviously box score type stuff is going to favor Jokic because that's his main thing(pts/efficiency/reb/ast).

Team record, and people wanting someone other than Jokic to win MVP. That's it. Those are the two reasons SGA will probably win MVP. Which is fine, but don't act like it's not that.

People saying SGA is having a comparable statistical season....they're just lying to themselves. Cherry pick whatever nerd stats you want, and bring up defense. It's just not true.

SGA is leading in Actual EPM so it’s not like Jokic is just completely dominating SGA in the impact metrics

SGA is having the best non-Jokic season since before Jokic won an MVP. And, simply, one of the best seasons ever.

But Jokic is having his best season, and a better one than SGA.

I think the top 15 in WS/48 beautifully puts into historical context what these two are doing, as all serious NBA fans will recognize the seasons in question:

1. '72 Abdul-Jabbar
2. '25 Jokic
3. '71 Abdul-Jabbar
4. '64 Chamberlain
5. '73 Abdul-Jabbar
6. '13 James
7. '91 Jordan
8. '25 Gilgeous-Alexander
9. '09 James
10. '16 Curry
11. '96 Jordan
12. '23 Jokic
13. '88 Jordan
14. '21 Jokic
15. '24 Jokic

Coincidentally, if the voters erroneously award SGA, it would be the second time in Jokic's career, post-MVP, that he set a new personal mark and didn't win MVP. (MVBiid is 94th on this list.)

10 out of 13 won MVP, with '64 Chamberlain, '73 Abdul-Jabbar, and '23 Jokic being the only exceptions.

I don't think its clear enough that you can say that voters were "erroneously" in rewarding SGA the MVP

I understand. It's still my opinion.

But, of course, there is a lot of season left to play, and by season's end, the gap could be much bigger, in either direction, than it is now.

A legend shouldn’t lose MVP. This is on the level of Kareem, Wilt, Jordan, Lebron, Bill Russell. He should have 4 MVPs like them

35 points, 22 rebounds, 17 assists, 1 steal, 2 blocks on 63/67/90 splits.

Once again, I don't have to post a name because there's only one guy who could've put up that statline.

First 30/20/15 game since Wilt is absolutely insane lol. Really hope people are appreciating what we're witnessing with Jokic right now. This is really special. It’s a top-5 prime of all time imo, and he has a realistic case for top-3.

I’ve said SGA pretty much all year because of the gap in wins but… damn these numbers are something else. We’re watching a top 10 all time player at the peak of his powers

Seems like every one of his triple doubles are coming before the third quarter is even over these days. He just keeps finding that next level that you think can't possibly exist.

If Jokic didn't exist, we'd spend more time talking about how SGA is having one of the greatest regular seasons in nba history. But reality is that, for one season, 30/30 GMs take Jokic over any other player in the nba. Short of MJ and LeBron i'm not sure any player has peaked higher than Jokic.

No one has. This is beyond anything we've even seen him from him.

I'm not impressed by this 35/20/17 because I just assume I've seen it a bunch of times already.... By Jokic.

One of the greatest seasons of any player ever.

Jokic is ridiculously good. Best player in the planet. But I think SGA is likely to win the MVP if he keeps playing at this level and OKC keeps winning at the same rate.

Joker is an average defender at best. But with that said If he was closer to being a true stopper, he would be GOAT > everyone. Just saying.

His 4-5 year peak is definitely better than any peak Lebron has IMO.
