And that funny you should mention that. About 10 years ago I put together a long spreadsheet of every concert that I could remember that I had seen where I paid money and tried to give it a ranking time and date that it happened the band I saw anything memorable about the concert. I stopped seeing live music about 10 years ago for various reasons. Most of the concerts on my spreadsheet are from the 90s and early 2000s when I saw a **** ton of music live like you do now.

There is a comedian in Australia who has a book where he has been writing down the movies he watched, their director and how he rated it for over 30 years. He goes through it on a podcast and talks about his ratings and memories.

Great list. I can tell we have a lot of similar tastes in movies. I forgot about Alien Romulus although I think I didn't have it on my list because I only watched it finally about two weeks ago. Gave it a three and a half. I liked it better than all of the alien movies since the original. I thought they did a really good job.

I've got my 2023 rankings around here somewhere.

whenever people ask me what's my all time favorite movie I usually give them one of three answers... old school movies as a kid my two favorite movies growing up were caddyshack and the original first blood... Don't even get me started on my rant about how they ruined the Rambo franchise with the second movie and turned him into like a superhero. The first movie was just absolutely brilliant.

But as for recent movies from the past decade or so I always tell people Paddington 2 might be the greatest movie ever made. I just love everything about that movie. Which is odd because that is so far away from the typical movie that I like. I almost never watch pg movies.

I've never actually seen Paddington 2, I only recently found out that it being good isn't actually a joke, I thought it was because of Nic Cage and Pedro Pascal in Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent were praising it that way and that movie was hilarious

I should watch it

The original Paddington movie is also amazing. It's just they built on that and turned to Paddington 2 into an incredible piece of art. I would recommend watching the original first and then watching Paddington 2. The cinematography in both of them is incredible. Every scene feels like a piece of artwork similar to A Wes Anderson movie. The action sequences in both movies are just incredibly impressive in terms of how they were shot. And then he's just such a likable character very heartwarming. But yeah Paddington 2 takes it to another level in terms of the brilliance. They're just about to release Paddington 3 which I suspect is going to have a hard time living up to the first two movies.

Buy an apple TV and get a Nugs subscription like me and you can watch every Goose and Billy Strings show for free. Video streams of a bunch of Bisco, Umphrey's, Dogs in a Pile, Lotus, and JRAD too. Cannot more highly endorse it.

I haven't seen nearly that many but whenever they hit the theater here we try to catch them because we usually love them. Decision to Leave and Parasite were top tier for me, I Saw the Devil was also extremely good and Train to Busan was alright but I only saw those on streaming. Also Broker was a fun one

I try to watch a ton of movies. I keep track of everything I watch on that app in the diary give everything a grade. I don't normally try to do the Oscars stuff though. Last 3 years I've watched on average about 250 movies a year.

I've got a spreadsheet for all my favorite movies that I watched from 2024. It was a weird year where I didn't just absolutely love anything but there were a lot of really solid movies. Saw quite a few random smaller indie movies that were pretty good this year as well. I rarely give anything higher than four stars. And this year nothing got higher than four stars but I had quite a few that were either three and a half or four stars.

I'll post the screenshot of my rankings when I get on my laptop later. Off the top of my head I'm pretty sure substance and Anora were probably my two favorite movies.

I'm not on letterboxd, but I'm checking it out now and it looks pretty handy. I have an evernote note that I use to keep track of movies, but it is a pain to sort through.

250 movies a year for 3 years is very impressive. I would imagine we are closer to 80ish feature length films/year. After the death race we seem to watch a bunch of lighter, comedy shows. It's pretty draining, especially the docs.

Looking over your list, Godzilla minus 1! So good. It was one of the elusive films for death racers last year so I didn't see it until after it earned best effects, but very happy I did. It is insane how good that movie looks and sounds compared to the production budget (10-15m). Anora and Substance being high on your list is encouraging, I think the plan is to watch The Substance or Nosferatu tonight so we can compare the different makeup category movies while they are fresh.

Late Night with the Devil was a fun movie, love watching Dastmalchian. He's started writing comic books recently-ish and is quite good. Talented guy. Did you watch Longlegs? Didn't notice it on your list, but seems like a good bit of horror, so maybe it didn't rate high enough. Nick Cage, what a weirdo. :D

Very impressive to see all of those in theaters. During the pandemic I dipped a toe into home theater stuff and by now we have a pretty sweet setup. Wife and I still try to catch more "popcorny" movies on the big screen (or imax sized stuff like Oppenheimer). We used to have a Friday routine of catching whatever movie was playing after our workouts (theater and gym both at the mall), but had that routine altered when the gym closed after someone was assassinated in it.

How was the Dungeons and Dragons movie? Trailers looked funny.

Parasite was really interesting, The Host was great. I saw a lot of the more gory/horrific ones years ago, looks like a good list to fill some gaps in my viewing.
