No way. Thought he was overrated last year coming out, and now after an injury think it would be even worse to do.

Look at what Daniels did this year & Purdy last year. QB on a rookie contract is insanely valuable.

Cool but McCarthy is such a big gamble. I didn't like him coming out of college at all and see no reason to gamble maybe the last good year we could have with this core on a rookie coming off a pretty major knee injury. Use the 1st round pick on an OL and make a free agent signing on the OL

You forgot a crucial part of that QB rookie contract equation. Said QB has to be actually be good.
There are many more bad QB's on rookie contracts, than good ones.
Will McCarthy be good? We'll see. But we won't be seeing that play out with him being a 49er.

And a QB on a big contract has to be better than good. They have to be elite.

Purdy has been a top 10 QB for 2.5 years with an average to below average offensive line, we aren't just going to land on a Allen, Jackson, Mahomes, Daniels type QB. After the whole Lance screw up this front office isn't going to gamble on a QB with the roster we have at the moment. Maybe in 2-3 years if this still isn't working and Purdy is getting worse, they will switch gears but right now they need to restock the OL/DL through the draft and free agency and go from there.

He was a top 10 QB because of the weapons. This season he wasn't top 20, and this roster isn't going to be the same if we pay him $60 million. That is 2 big time playmakers right there.
