Dallas- Toronto: Mavericks get a forward

Post#1 » by islandboy53 » Sun Jan 26, 2025 9:21 pm

Dallas is in need of a forward to fill in until Lively gets back.

Dallas out: M. Kleber, 25 Den/Phi 2nd
Dallas in: C. Boucher

Toronto out: C. Boucher
Toronto in: M. Kleber, 25 Den/Phi 2nd

Dallas gets a big to carry them till the end of the season along with salary flexibility next year. Toronto gets a 2nd for Boucher.

I think Toronto is due more, but Dallas shouldn't pay it. Maybe some cash? Right idea though. Toronto gets a good 2nd and Dallas gets a guy who would play 20-25 minutes immediately at this point.

Agree with Chuck.

If Toronto does this, Dallas should.

Just don’t think toronto does.

You’re talking 2 2nds that Dallas would have to include for Toronto to consider

Agreed that Toronto should get more value. The challenge, of course, is that Dallas only has 1 SRP to include. Dallas could send its 25 1st in addition to the 2nd, with Toronto sending back the 25 Portland 2nd, or Prosper and the 2nd, but then we're looking at perhaps too much going to Toronto.

Prosper isn't too much, but the problem again is even with Boucher he's now got to play too(I think). But if the Raps see anything in Prosper is the way. Dallas should be trading no first for that swap, especially since that pick figures to be in the top 18.

Toronto should keep Boucher if he can't get them two mid 2nds. Kleber isn't a NBA caliber player anymore.

I generally agree, but there is a world where a deal involving a 1st might make sense. Drop the seconds from Dallas and put lotto protection on the 1st. Toronto sends the Portland 2nd. Omax doesn’t have any value imo.

Something like

Kleber and top 14 protected 1st (around #18)
for
Boucher and POR ‘2nd (around #35)

Kleber is purely negative money, for 2 years. Boucher has some positive value as a 4/5. This is probably not perfect, but pretty close to what it would take to make a deal.

I don't disagree Toronto might not need that to do the deal but Dallas shouldn't. They don't have assets to throw away firsts on rentals of 9th men and a small salary dump

I'd pass. Boucher doesn't do anything for Dallas. He's the one guy in the NBA that makes me feel ripped, and that doesnt help with the frontcourt issues Dallas has

Toronto needs more incentive then one 2nd especially a late one to take on Maxi. I don't see Dallas swapping their first this year with that Portland second. Maybe Toronto squeezes Omax instead of the second?

Wouldn't consider PHI 2nd late, but I also don't think it's enough to dump Maxi's extra year...
Prosper would be fair value, but he's the only backup PF on roster, so he's kinda needed.

I think Maxi/Powell/PHI 2nd for Olynik makes more sense, playable backup big to eat minutes in RS for 2 injured ones, and open a vet min slot for the Mavs under the hardcap.

Sorry its too early still feeling the effects of the football games and drinking too much crown royal to forget KC winning like they did. Saw Denver second. As for Powell, Klieber and a second for Olynyk I don't Toronto only considers it unless they want a second prospect in the second round. Powell has looked awful these last few years like he might be the worst offensive front court player and Maxi is in that convo but I guess they are great tank commanders

None of these players is good, none of Olynik, Powell or Boucher is in the rotation for the PO, Maxi is just not going to be healthy, Olynik is closer because he has money next year, and salary is very close, so TOR isn't taking any additional money while for Boucher they take in extra 11M next year...

You’re forgetting that Toronto actually likes Olynyk, both and a locker room leader for their young team, and for his ability to play as C next to Scottie. Swapping Olynyk’s next year for Maxi is a step backwards and needs compensation.

Olynyk and Boucher are both better than Powell, and also Maxi since he’s injured.

One version of a deal mentioned in this thread that seems interesting is the idea of opening up cap room for Dallas for another signing for this years playoff run. Toronto could definitely accommodate the salaries, but they need more compensation than a single 2nd. Omax isn’t it.

Neither Boucher, Maxi Kelly or Powell are great, very good etc they fill roles. I just think a pick in the 50's to take on Powell and Maxi for Kelly is very meh. Boucher and Kelly both make Dallas better just don't see both teams making a deal because both sides it seems value their players more

I don't think the actual value of the pick Dallas can trade is enough for Toronto, but we should probably set that pick below the 50's because the path to a top ten record for Philly this year doesn't seem to be there. Pick is currently 38--probably doesn't stay there and inches into the 40s', but hard to get it to 50+.

I know this is pedantic, but its a pet peeve of mine to try and talk about what's actually offered in a deal. So forgive me. :D

The pick right now is 38th? I think it’s a pretty decent offer for Kelly. Short for Boucher as everyone has said.

But definitely understand if Toronto can get a worse 2nd and expiring or even two worse 2nds..
