It’s cold here. Minny-SAC

MIN GETS: Jordan MacLaughlin + Alex Len

SAC GETS: 2026 2nd (worst of IND, MIA, SA) + Luka Garza + Joe Ingles

Why for MIN? Emergency back ups in case Conley or Gobert miss time. JMac already knows most of the team and Finch’s system.

Why for SAC? Squeeze a 2nd round pick out of a couple vet min signings. With Fox, Monk and Devin Carter, they don’t need JMac, and Len is just .. Len.

Notes: Garza has a no-trade clause, but warmer SAC may offer more opportunity. MIN is over the apron, but it’s legal to swap vet min deals regardless of years of service because they all have the same 2-year vet cap hit.

Four vet min deals. Blockbuster

Send cash to buy out Garza so the Kings can sign a backup center? Len doesn't play a lot of minutes but he's gotten into most games. Can't imagine Garza would play outside of garbage time and the Kings are already too small.

But yeah this seems fine.

Deal. Kings need some 2nds even if they aren't good ones. I'd hope to wrap this into a John Collins deal.

Maybe offcourt Garza helps his college buddy Keegan Murray get his mojo back?

I’d do this and maybe even old Joe had ten minutes here or there of thug playoff minutes in him.

How did Garza get a NTC? Genuinely curious.

I think it is the nature of the one year extension. I am not 100% sure but I think all players signed to that type of deal get to reject being traded.

It's a bit of a blah deal, neither good or bad.

I will say, I'm hesitant to bring in anyone else Finch might play over Dillingham.

Are we sure he didn't already sign away his right to veto? A lot of teams are requiring guys to sign that right away at time of contract signing now, so that they don't hold up a possible trade midseason.

As far as I know. Locally I haven’t heard anything, but to be honest, this isn’t likely to make the news for a vet min player. Perhaps because of this, Spotrac and all the other sites have him listed with veto power.

Yeah, I’m unsure. I know Smitty has listed before, but it’s not centralized in an easy to find spot on Spotrac. Best I can find is this, which I can’t fully verify, though I know that Achiuwa did…

Precious Achiuwa (Knicks)
Charles Bassey (Spurs)
Thomas Bryant (Heat)
Gary Harris (Magic)
Aaron Holiday (Rockets)
Keon Johnson (Nets) *
Alex Len (Kings)
Sandro Mamukelashvili (Spurs)
Markieff Morris (Mavericks) *
Kelly Oubre (Sixers)
Garrett Temple (Raptors)
Tristan Thompson (Cavaliers) *
Moritz Wagner (Magic)

Interesting. So it looks like about half forfeited those rights (the ones you listed), and half didn’t? From the same article

Players re-signing for one year (or two years, with a second-year player/team option):

Bol Bol (Suns)
Vlatko Cancar (Nuggets)
Seth Curry (Hornets)
Luka Garza (Timberwolves)
James Harden (Clippers)
James Johnson (Pacers) *
DeAndre Jordan (Nuggets)
Luke Kennard (Grizzlies)
Luke Kornet (Celtics)
Damion Lee (Suns)
Kyle Lowry (Sixers)
Trendon Watford (Nets)

Personally, I would be surprised if Garza, or any vet min player, exerted veto power. He’s a player that is barely in the NBA, and he probably doesn’t want to risk damaging their reputation with front offices by not being a team player.
