1st game: get a back-to-back to replace the prior 1, at least this way we're already on the road & it's a short travel Miami to NO

2nd-3rd game(s): they're just switching around the California games, so really doesn't impact us

4th game: just switches 1 home back-to-back, w/ another, so functionally no difference

In the end all we had was an inconvenience.

What game was added to make up for NBA Cup?

Its gotta be teams more like us.

Golden State is the real dark horse imo.

Denver?

Minnesota??

The key is that he said it could completely change the landscape in a real way. That means someone goes to true contender status....or.....a true contender becomes an absolute juggernaut.

Hmmmmmmm

I agree Golden State is an interesting team to watch here. And I'd be a lot more excited about taking on Wiggins than Lavine or Beal in that situation.

Like this one but do not see the incentive for Detroit

I think it's awesome for Detroit. They actually want to win now, and they get out of that Beef Stew contract. I think Stew sucks.

Yeah, they need/want veteran leadership and high BBIQ guys. They also need shot makers to help Cade. Khris would be a great low-cost option for them and their playoff push. Would like to squeeze value out of them, but Khris is so hard to gauge. I still think Stew can be a very solid and versatile two-way contributor in the right environment, but agree he has been pretty bad this season. Cam and Wiggins bolster our wing rotation and unlock some fun death lineup options.

All this stuff could be smokescreens, but this tracks because I don't see a logical Golden State trade materializing here without a ton of help from a 3rd team. Maybe Denver jumps in at the 11th hour if a third team really wants MPJ and are cool taking on Nnaji's contract? Miami's just running out of options here. I really think it's Khris + Bobby or nothing. Can't fathom Riley keeping him past the deadline and nuking the locker room (and therefore their playoff chances), but maybe he'd really be that petty and self destructive?

"barring a last minute change". It's all smoke and mirrors leading up to the deadline. Teams and agents throw out red herrings all the time.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

This came up in the game thread too -- can you or anyone give more detail on what Marques said?

I believe it (even if he just thinks Khris might get traded) but curious to what extent.

“Lowering the asking price” for Butler and the fact Khris and Bobby both fit Miamis timeline and can help them accomplish what they want this season leads me to believe everything we’ve heard so far is total BS. Also, our 2031 1st has never been involved in this or Miami would’ve already bit the bullet.

On a side note, New Orleans looking for a major shake up by the deadline has me wondering if there’s something to be had there. Maybe the 2031 1st could be the piece that gets New Orleans to actually consider moving Herb Jones. He still remains an actual needle mover for us in that Pj Tucker role we could really use come playoff time.

Warriors fans will always believe that a savior will be gifted directly into their laps for free, even though it has literally never happened. They’re a special bunch.

I still think there's a chance we get something done with Golden State centered around Khris, Bobby, and Kuminga. Perhaps a trade where Khris/Bobby to Golden State, Kuminga/Wiggins to Miami, Butler to Milwaukee. Haven't done the cap work, but something like that.

Heat interested in Randle per Ian Begley:

The Miami Heat had interest in trading for Julius Randle this past offseason before he was traded by the New York Knicks to the Minnesota Timberwolves, sources tell Ian Begley. Randle has also remained on the radar of the Heat as the season has progressed. Randle can be an unrestricted free agent this offseason if he declines his player option.

Stands to reason Bobby is a similar player.

But also I think Minnesota definitely would swap Julius for Khris as part of a bigger trade.

Middleton makes a lot of sense for Minnesota. They could really use his shooting and play-making. And they have the athletes plus Gobert to cover for him defensively.

+1

This makes a ton of sense for everyone involved. Question is just how willing Brooklyn is to deal Johnson

I can’t help but think we’re that older, middle of the pack team who “needs a Hail Mary right now” that he references at the end of the clip.

Pure speculation but that definitely sounds like Milwaukee considering the Butler buzz.

1. Would Butler show up and play hard for us if we didn’t immediately extend him?

2. What would our flexibility be like if we traded Bobby and Kris for Butler, then let him walk?

This may be splitting hairs, but I feel Bucks are better than middle of the pack. They are 8th in net rating on the season, and what are they the last 30 games? Has to be top 5. Bucks are definitely in the "older" group, but how does Butler help that exactly?

If the Bucks trade for Butler using Middleton, it's because they believe Middleton cannot be counted on come playoff time due to injuries. It's not going to be because they think Butler is a better fit. A healthy/productive Middleton is legit one of the best "fit" number 3's in the entire league. Butler could easily go either way given his age, and his overall attitude.
