I love the Sky and DiJonai. It would be fun if that worked out (though I'm sure the Sun are matching any offer)

Team needs shooting and DC doesn't necessarily provide that, but she provides everything else.

Sign DiJonai, take Sonia Citron at #3, then Sellers or Paopao at #10. I dig it. And of course, they have loads of cap space.

Not a title contender in 2025, but that's a fun young team that can defend like crazy, and some shooting sprinkled in.

Having both Angel and Dijonai defensively would be scary

First trade of two #1 overall picks in history, not to mention both being 2-time WNBA champs and all the other accolades.
This massive trade to break up the 2-time champs.

And they did it with no freaking GM.

I don't know who's calling the shots here, but none of this seems promising.

As a Liberty fan, I approve of their decision

ESPN reporting that AT is being traded to the Mercury. Wow.

Didn't see anything reported about compensation, or if Bonner is coming with her.

End of an era

I mean, the core was old but still

You know what would be fun? If the Sun were able to acquire the #1 pick somehow and rebuild around Paige. Won't happen, but a guy can dream.

Bonner is definitely coming with her.

Interested to see how this line up will look. BG and AT up front? Jesus.

Mabrey is probably like WTF i just got here and everyone's leaving.

It would be great to have Paige remain in the northeast.

Yeah, Mabrey has to be pissed.

I was listening to a podcast with the Sun's new coach from France. I'm sure I misinterpreted some from the broken English, but he did not sound very complimentary of the American style of basketball. Particularly the physicality which he mentioned a few times.

I remember thinking man this doesn't sound like someone AT would want to play for (or a lot of players really).

It's about to get real bleak for the Sun. No 1st round pick (that Mabrey trade stings for her and the franchise). Terrible facilities, and it was already hard to get free agents.

Sun blowing it up is good for the Sky since we can pick swap in 2026.

Chicago set up so beautifully. Mercury's pick in 2026 too. 7 1st round picks in a 3 year stretch.

Really fascinated to see what PHX gave.

No 1st round pick this year or next. There's no combination of PHX players currently under contract that would be enough to pull this trade off (outside of Kah, and no way they traded her).

Unless they did 2027-2030 1st round picks, it almost feels like they let her go for nothing, as a thank you/apology dealing with such crappy facilities.

Yeah that sucks. No way the Sun can compete without AT, Dijonai and DB.

DOT this is why I have been saying that it might be best for the Sun to partner up with the Celtics but I'd be remiss not to think about how Sun fans would be devastated by a move.

Really feels like the Sun are just going to suck for a few years, and sell to somebody in Boston.

Owners don't want to put any money in the team. They don't have to. They sell, they make a nice profit.

Boom, boom done, and Uncasville gets it's community center back.

Yeah, a move would suck for the fans, and they've got some great ones.

But them leaving feels inevitable at some point.

Honestly, this trade feels like the owners are seeing what franchise values are now and are clearing the books to make it more attractive to put it up for sale.

[Charania] After 11 seasons in Phoenix, 10-time WNBA All-Star Brittney Griner has agreed to a deal with the Atlanta Dream, sources tell ESPN. Griner spent her entire career with Mercury and now heads to Atlanta in one of most stunning free agency moves in league history.

Whoa. I would have thought that the AT trade would have made it more likely that BG stayed.

I wonder if this means Bri Jones (heck maybe DiJonai too) are heading to Phoenix. We'd have the Phoenix...uh....Sun?

And I wonder where Tina Charles goes.

So the Sun got the #12 pick, Natasha Cloud, and Bec Allen for AT (and Ty Harris).

I feel horrible for Cloud who's been recruiting like hell for people to come to PHX.

Reports of Sabally meeting with PHX and the Liberty. I don't know what PHX could trade that could beat a #7 or #8 pick from NY or IND, but AT-Kah-Sabally-Bonner would be a lot of fun.

And now, in the last 3 days, 1/3rd of last Summer's US Olympic gold medal team has changed teams.

Return to WNBA
