Heat Have Had Interest In Julius Randle

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Jan 28, 2025 7:08 pm

The Miami Heat had interest in trading for Julius Randle this past offseason before he was traded by the New York Knicks to the Minnesota Timberwolves, sources tell Ian Begley. Randle has also remained on the radar of the Heat as the season has progressed. Randle can be an unrestricted free agent this offseason if he declines his player option.

In 46 games this season, Randle is averaging 18.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 33.0 minutes. The Wolves have a 25-21 record when Randle plays.

Randle is represented by Aaron Mintz and Steven Heumann.

Bucks get: Jimmy
Timberwolves get: Middleton, Love
Heat get: Randle, Brook Lopez

works on paper, no team gets much better or worse.

Not bad! I actually think that makes both MIL and MIA better (not better enough) but I don't know why MIN does this. I don't think MIA wants to send out picks in the deal, so is MIL sending out draft capital to grease the wheels?

Minnesota needs a stretch 4 and Love gets his final years where he started. Randle is a bad fit

Love has only played in 18 games this year, averaging 6/4/1 in 11 MPG on 35% shooting. He won't get minutes on a good team. Randle might not be a good fit, but MIN isn't trading him for a good story. :D

He potentially could play better, but he's 36yo and getting pretty slow. They're giving him mostly backup center minutes in MIA. Per36 he's averaging 19/14/3... so not bad on that end. He just can't stay in front of anyone on the perimeter. Maybe he could give 12-15 minutes as a strech-4 with Gobert behind him. But that hope isn't worth trading Randle for. MIN needs a player. A starting PG of the future or a solid reserve SF/PF.
