I'm with you,... expecting that move to happen,... but I wouldn't be too surprised if it didn't. The tax after this season (again as Scoot has pointed out,.. at least 2x) isn't nearly as bad as it has been. Also, if I look back at the teams that Mr. Simon did pay the tax to keep together,... they were all contenders,.. or maybe clearly going to be that next year? Granted, historically,.. we don't pay the tax.
If this team pulls this season together,... and we once again are in the ECF? or the EC final four,... with the look of a team that is going to keep contending,... then I'm convinced Mr. Simon would go for it. (This wouldn't be the first time I was wrong,.... - LOL )
Scoot's other relevant point, about staying out of the tax this year because the size of the payments the non-tax teams will receive, also seems to support the idea? We ride with Myles,... cash the tax check from the league,... resign him in the open market,.. for market value,... and go into the tax for next year,... IF the teams shows it's ready.; (If I am remembering all the timing right - again,.. wouldn't be the second time I was wrong either.)
Having said all that,... I have to agree with you,... there are valuable players on the Pacers, that might have even more value to other teams? That could be moved to lower any future tax bill or avoid it in the short run. IMO a couple of those players have reached their ceiling with the Pacers,... but maybe not their ceiling as players? again, IMO, I think this is the most likely route forward,....
But in both those paths,... I don't think we trade, or replace Myles unless he gets an untouchable offer? Replacing him with someone who can play his minutes, with his consistency (yes,.. I said that about Myles), who fits this team,... would (again, again, IMO) be even more expensive than keeping him? Now,.. if the FO & Coaches want to take a step back,... lose a few more games next year, grow the team with a younger core,... then Yeah,... I can see the logic. I just can't see taking that approach after acquiring Pascal?
Anyway,... Really appreciate you man,... and the good conversations!! Sorry if this is a bit terse,.. in a hurry, but wanted to keep the discourse going,... LOL
Go Pacers!
