If they can’t get Butler, I could be talked into PatC and 2031 2nd to Detroit for Ron Harper Jr or whoever then Midds/Brook to Chicago for Lavine/Jalen Smith. Then flip Bobby for Larry Nancy Jr. Cut whoever you get from the Pistons or Marjon or Wright and sign Rollins.

Under the second apron with this:
Dame/AJax/Lavine/Giannis/Smith
Rollins/AJG/GTJ/Prince/Nance

Switchable bigs helps cover for Dame+Lavine and you remove a lot of the footspeed issues.

LaVine + Jalen Smith works in a direct deal for Khris + Bobby + Pat + MarJon (or AJ Johnson) contractually.

On the face of it seems like Jalen would be a great fit as well -- and he's only 24 making ~ $9M per through 2027:

"Loved him," Carlisle said when asked by a Chicago reporter about his experience coaching Smith. "He's one of the most wonderful young men I've ever been around. Always in a great mood, high level of skill. He's a great rebounder and he can really shoot the ball and he can block shots. He knows how to play. He's a great teammate. I was really disappointed that we lost him, but I could really see that it was gonna happen. He's just too good."

Smith now finds himself in a similar position on a Bulls team that wants to play the way the Pacers did last year. The Bulls rank fifth in the league in scoring and first in pace and it helps when a team is playing that fast to have a center who can run like Smith can. He's averaging 8.0 points and 5.1 rebounds in 14.8 minutes per game as the backup for starter Nikola Vucevic [as of Dec. 10].

This was June of last year. Six months later we better not be giving up anything of value for no defense ball stopper

Why are we talking about something said in June 2024?

You can’t deny that Lavine is having a good year this year.

Lavine wouldn't be my first choice, but he's probably the best option of players that are getable for the Bucks trash package. I'd rebuild, but if that's not an option, Lavine is fine.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but the Bucks have to get under the second apron BEFORE they make a trade that combines salaries. The Bulls are over the cap so they can’t take one of the Bucks players for nothing in an initial separate trade. Which is why you first need to unload Pat for nothing on a team with cap space like the Pistons and likely toss them a pick or young player as compensation.

Once Pat is gone, the Bucks still can’t take back too much more than they send out so you need Brook’s salary in the deal (or a third team taking Brook and sending the Bulls someone on a similar contract) to send out enough salary with Midds to take back both Lavine and Jalen Smith.

If the Bulls want Marjon or AJ Johnson as sweetener, they can take have either because the real target here is Smith who seems like a great fit next to Giannis.

The bonus is Bobby has enough trade value and with Jalen Johnson out, I’d assume the Hawks would easily do Portis for Nance straight up.

Isn’t Lavine having his most efficient offensive year this season? That would make twitterings from before this season pointless.

Again, I’d only take him if Butler is off the table AND you can steal Jalen Smith with Lavine.

No, you can aggregate as long as you get below the second apron at the end of the deal. So, all of it can be done in one.

Currently thinking about players on losing franchises. Pat Williams is a good example, if we brought him into our culture, could that be a massive buy low? I think they’d sell him for expiring or maybe pay us to take him. IF he got it together here, that’s a massive home run if a move.

I’d be thinking long and hard about that. Totally get why the idea would be repulsive to others.

MKE in Williams, Jalen Smith, assets?
CHI (or third team) Middleton

I think that would leave us a Marjon dump away from being under the second apron. And could still use Pat, Bobby, Brook to retool. See if Lopez, filler could get us Isaac. Bobby and Pat and 31 1st to get us a starting center.

Dame, Rollins, AJJ
Green, Trent
Williams, Ajax
Giannis, Jalen Smith
Starter, Isaac

That’s an interesting sequence. You wouldn’t need to dump Marjon, though. You’d be under the second apron with the Khris deal since he has 2.3M of unlikely incentives on top of his 31.7M salary.

You could then immediately turn around and do Pat + Bobby and bring back around 22M back.

This isn’t the number one goal, but getting LaVine also allows you to move Dame in the offseason if you want to for depth/athletic slasher guys. LaVine can play the Jayson Tatum chucker role and a Dame trade can bring in a Jaylen Brown type guy. You have Celtics Midwest.

With Butler you are basically getting a rental and hoping it puts you over the top this year. Then who knows what.

Lavine is a good player. But I don’t think he’s right for this bucks team with Giannis and Dame running the show. We need a glue guy in that 3rd banana role so that means keeping Midds or taking on Jimmy for mine.

What are the odds that all this bluster leads to a disappointing sequence of fringe moves and everyone just stays put with what they have? Wouldn’t shock me.

In that case assuming no Jimmy and assuming the Bulls don’t want draft compensation or would be fine with the 2031 second, I’d do Midds/Bobby/Pat/Marjon for Lavine/Jalen. Do it soon enough and Bulls can flip Portis for something before the deadline if they don’t want to pay him. But I’m higher than most on Lavine’s ability to play offball. I think his three point shooting plus ability to attack closeouts makes him scary offball with Dame and Giannis gravity. And there are times when you’d want him handling/initiating as well.

Is us keeping Bobby and letting PJ walk similar to us signing A.
Mason and letting Scott William's go? Scott Williams was a glue guy, did all the little things, defense, hustle, play within his abilities.. Mason was the better offensive talent, but thought he was better than he really was.

LaVine would fit here like Beal does in Phoenix, like ****. It would blow up in our face immediately, very easily preferable to make no move versus one with a more loser Monta Ellis like LaVine. Giving up another pick is just stupid on another level.

Jimmy plays defense and steps it up in the playoffs, everybody else available are just losers.
