Could Davion be our next Kyle Lowry?

Post#1 » by RaptorLakerJay » Thu Jan 30, 2025 4:28 am

Davion's got that bulldog tenacity like Kyle did. Lowry was also about to be traded in 2014. The Raptors are a completely different team with him in the starting lineup. He's now shooting 38.5% from 3 as a starter in 22 games too, compared with only 28.3% off the bench in 20 games! He's literally been giving opposing PGs a bunch of off-nights. If we want to compete for the playoffs next year, we need great defenders on this squad. I understand if y'all want to trade off vets to tank, but Davion in my opinion deserves to stay.

No. Doesn't have Lowry's scoring ability. Not even close.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

Kyle averaged just 11.6 points in his first season with the Raptors. He also had three seasons where he shot below 28% from 3. It was only in his prior 2 seasons to joining the Raps where he was shooting 37.5% from three.

Davion is younger than Lowry was when we acquired him. People here forgetting he's only 25 yrs old, still fairly young by NBA PG standards.

I like his defense....breath of fresh air compared to previous seasons where opposing guards had a red carpet/layup line to the basket.

He's barely a point guard offensively speaking. He's never going to be able to run an offense.
The good thing about BI is he can shoot over defenders.
The bad thing about BI is he can shoot over defenders.

I think you're on to something here. Like most have said - not sure he has the offensive side, but Lowry added that later as well, so maybe.

...but this is a completely different team when we 1) stop opposing teams at the point of attack and 2) play Scottie down low - but like you I'm thinking Davion might be a core piece going forward!

Lowry was already pretty good on Houston, he just had to split time with Dragic (if I remember correctly) and couldn't really hit 3s yet.

If you look at his True Shooting, FT Rate, he was already doing lots of good stuff on O. Mitchell isn't. The hope here if we re-signed him would be Pat Beverley, not Kyle Lowry.

Now I know how the Bulls fans must have felt when people started calling Grant Hill or Vince the next MJ.

Nothing against Davion, I think he’s a solid backup PG. If he can match Kyle in how hard he consistently plays, he’d have a long career in the league.

He needs to hit open 3s at least 40%

I would keep him and see if he can develop an aggressive offense to match his defense.

He got that dawg in him and it has rubbed off on the rest of the team.

He has a loooong way to go.

Lowry was a dynamic bull dog who was top 10 in the NBA in Win Shares, RPM, VORP and every advanced stat you can think of in his prime. He was a guy that averaged 20, 8 and 5 on good efficiency and was a monster defensively.

Davion is a fire hydrant like Lowry and maybe he figures out how to be a high level starter late like Lowry did. But that is a tall order.

I am convinced he now has big value as a trade piece.

Some playoff team will think he is the Jrue Holiday addition that takes them over the top. On such a small deal he can get us a FRP. A team like Memphis stands out to me.

True. Lowry was decent in the later years, especially due to the supporting cast, particularly Kawhi, ( 17, 7, 5 during Raps era ) --- good, but not great, imo , lol he benefitted a lot from a team with great depth mostly.

Devon needs to improve on offense over time... who knows?.. it's not like he is being compared with Shai, lol, a real star.

As a reminder, some were saying he would be out of the league next year.
