I think you'd need a large sample size to come to that conclusion.

- Randle struggles seems to be related to his mental lows mixed in with an overall slump.
- Donte has had a pretty good January and it's no coincidence it happens to be when he was inserted into the starting lineup.
- Obi isn't trailblazing, but it seems like he's a net-positive since the trade.
- Grimes seems to be bouncing back from a horrible season in Detroit.

Don't forget, RJ is also having a career year under a new coach

Thibs is a solid coach overall. He gets you regular season wins.

If he's a great coach then his impact will be clearly seen in the playoffs. A great coach takes this elite roster to the finals. If we underperform in the postseason, then I remain a Thibs skeptic.

.
Anything less than the ECF would be a major failure. That's the least we should demand of Thibs with the roster he has.

There should be a huge asterisks here: Thibs gets more out of *GUYS HE LIKES. Thibs gets nothing out of guys he doesn't like. It's a pretty binary world with Coach Maniac. You're in or you're out. If you're IN, you'll overperform. If you're out, you're out.

He likes good players and doesn’t like bad players

I trust his track record of picking players to ride with over the Knicks fandom. Take this quote for example

“When things implode later this season, and after they fire Thibs, I expect Cam to go full-Treyverson and average 29 ppg during a late-season 10-game garbahge time stretch that takes us out of contention for a top 5 pick. Then Cam leaves in FA, of course. And the Knicks continue to Knick”

The Knicks fandom thought Scam didn’t work here because Thibs didn’t like him. Turns out, he sucked in college, he sucked before he got here, and he has continued to suck on every team he’s landed on after he left here. Many such cases.

Now the guys Thibs “liked”, he has taken them to heights never thought possible. Maybe he just has an eye for talent?

Brunson - first time all star, first time all star starter
Towns - first time all star starter
OG and Hart - becoming respected as elite players
Hartenstein - bench guy to getting him paid 30 million a year
Randle - MIP, 3x all star, 2x all nba, traded for hall of famer. From nothing
Donte - had him looking like Steph curry
Quickley - built him up and got him paid like 200m

Players who couldn’t hack it here just weren’t that good or at least not as good as the fandom imagined

He even got dudes like Reggie bullock a payday. So many examples but I have to go to lunch

Some folks saying Thibs "got smart" or "woke up" about not playing his starters into the ground and using his bench
More likely Leon sat his ass down and said don't **** up this all time great rebuild of mine by being a stubborn maniac psychopath.

They probably told him if we leading the league and minutes and anyone of them gets an injury, later in the season, it’s your ass

It's kinda like this. But we know a guy like Mitch tickles his fancy so he would definitely get major minutes.

I wonder what he thinks of Beef Stew or is he more a Stroganoff kind of guy?

Hell yes. When Josh namechecks the minutes police it was definitely a meme circulating the inner bowels of MSG.

I said it before that Rose will put the team above Thibs and I'm sure this had to have been discussed with Thibs.

People want to be snarky about it, cool, have fun with it, but facts are this team is so obviously better when the starters get rests during the game.

It is especially important in that early 4th quarter segment so the starters can close out without being gassed like they were before Thibs started going with the bench for longer stretches.

It was a lot more than realgm posters talking about the issue. You had HOF’ers, his former players, other coaches, analysts, journalists, commentators, podcasters, youtubers, all NBA fans, etc etc etc talking about this.

When your starters are all in the top 5-10 of the league in minutes, and the whole world is talking about it, of course upper management is gunna be aware. This isn’t the first time Rose had to deal with this (Hahn interview with the “edict” question). Whether he spoke to Thibs or not who knows, but he publicly denied it last time… like he’s supposed to.

Josh Hart fighting against the minutes police isn’t really proof of anything either. Same thing with him and Donte fighting against the players in the league voting Thibs dead last as a coach they’d want to play for. That’s their job.

As a competitor, you don’t wanna leave the game at all really unless you’re hurt. Doesn’t matter if the quality of your play is falling off as a result of exhaustion, you always want in on the action. Being on the team doesn’t mean he’s right on this issue at all. Hart’s just looking at it from a completely different perspective, one that doesn’t take into account or realize everything that we’re discussing as an issue.

yea it's always nonsense to me when people use the players' opinion to defend a coach. most players will play through an injury and make it worse because they are prideful - it takes the medical staff and front office to make the right decision.
